if you ever watch the eva franchise just go with the movies

The tsundere is more apparent in the movies since it came out later and the who tsundere has been more established. Still like 95% tsun 5% dere though.

Id say the show is a little dated now but still good, if you're going to go straight onto the movies I would skim through a plot description of episodes 1-24 or else theres alot of stuff just thrown around that makes little sense

Movie really wasn't bad. Of course I'm biased because Eva is awesome.

I always laugh when movies get released like this. It just reminds me of South Park Bank:

EVA guys: "Hi I'd like to release this movie so people can pay to watch it."

Producers: "Well that's fantastic, a really smart decision -- we'll just advertise your movie, put it in theaters for a few months, release it on blu-ray... aaaaand it's gone."

EVA guys: "What?"

Producers: "The people that will pay to watch the movie. They're all gone."

EVA guys: "But we just released it on blu-ray this morning, there's a ton of people that would still pay to see it!"

Producers: "Not anymore there's not -- poof."

EVA guys: "Well, what can I do to get them all back?"

Producers: "Well, do you have any movies that you want to release?"

EVA guys: "I just released my movie, and you lost all the legal viewers!"

Producers: "Well, I'm sorry sir, this line is for new movies only, please step aside... Oh, Steins;Gate guys, releasing a new movie are we?"

Legal sites (two of them):

http://www.amazon.com/Evangelion-First-Edition-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B00BHO70L0

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KIXA-290

First six minutes:

You know, no offense, but it's not that hard to look these up by yourself.

I dont mind it not sticking to the original plot, rebuild 2 didnt either, to be honest with all the hints of the rebuild movies being sequels rather than a re-telling of the original Im tempted to say that.

As I said, the problem is this film was intended to be released with eva 4.0 at the same time. I think so much of whats going on doesnt make any sense because were missing 2 hours worth of story to explain everything. That said

mild spolier

I was disappointed to be honest. It's like a movie made by someone who watched the series and didn't understand it. All the basic elements are there but none of the nuance. I had the same gripe with the 2nd movie, but too a much lesser to degree. For example Asuka is all ass kicking in this because that's what people want from her. She was very vulnerable in the series though. I also get the feeling that they're having way to much fun with the huge budget. All the weird 3D shots don't add anything extra, and some of the action was unintelligible, although thats probably because I watched a shitty streaming version. The TV series had a cinemetic quality that made everything seem epic. I hate using that word since since it became such a buzz phrase, but that's the truth of it, the scale of it was huge and it didn't require 3d or shit loads of CGI or super complex angel designs. They embraced the mech aspect of it and disregarded the complex emotional relationships of the characters.

They could still turn it around of course. It has all the makings of a fine second act in terms of setup, but I was disappointed compared to the first and second movies which were pretty amazing.
