This one came out of nowhere.

HBO and director Guillermo Del Toro are teaming up to bring a live action adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's Monster to television. Del Toro will be co-writing the series with Steven Thompson, the latter of which has done some fantastic work on Dr. Who and Sherlock. Thompson is writing the pilot episode, which will be helmed by Del Toro himself. According to Deadline, it actually took quite a bit of effort for Del Toro to convince Urasawa to go forward with the project, which leaves me hopeful that this will be a faithful adaptation.

For those of you unfamiliar with Monster, it's the story of a young Japanese doctor living in Germany and his quest to stop a sociopath. There's more to it than that, but I'd hate to spoil the story for anybody. It's one hell of a thriller, and a fantastic manga. As far as I'm concerned, it's a necessary read.

Will they keep Dr. Tenma Japanese? Will the whole series still be set in Germany? Considering how important the location is to the narrative, I can't see them changing the setting. If they do keep it in Germany, what are they going to do about the language? I have plenty of questions, but for now I suppose all we can do is wait and see.

This has the potential to be amazing. Please be amazing. Pretty please?
