Thoughts On Metal Gear?
Posted 4/28/13
So here we are. Talking about the critically acclaimed Metal Gear series on the Crunchyroll forums. From the Solid Saga to the insane amount of prequels, I was curious what other members of the site thought of Konami's acclaimed stealth-action license. Tell us your thoughts and why you think that way, we're all ears.

My thoughts? Well...you'll see soon enough. BEGIN THE DISCUSSIONS!!

I absolutely loved the first one. Played it for the first time when I was about 10.
I love the whole series in general, but the first one was just so good. So many creepy moments and plot twists.

Do you mean the first one ever made? or the first one that came out on the PS?

I cant really say much about the first two, that was on the nes, I never found them, or maybe as I was 5 I just didn't notice them. But metal gear solid and metal gear solid 2: sons of liberty, are my favour ones of all time. Strangely me and my mate was talking about this subject on Saturday. I wont go into the details, but what we both agreed on, was sons of liberty just edged shadow mosses. Just because of the simple fact of knocking foes off the walk ways, by cartwheeling past them.

There is one good thing about Guns of the patriots tho. It's when you head back to shadow mosses (metal gear solid) and get the chance to replay a old classic. That's where I stopped playing, Guns of the patriots, the story just wasn't doing it for me

Ah yes, sorry. I did mean Metal Gear Solid, so the first one on the PS.

Last one? You mean Metal Gear Rising: Revengence or Metal Gear Solid 4?

Metal Gear Rising: Revengence!
Just like DmC: Devil May Cry, I was let down by a storyline lacking in structure and repetitive gameplay

I liked them until 4, after that I have not had much interest. I've played all previous ones though (had to play the original on an MSX emulator though).

Oh, OK. I see. I've heard that Rising was pretty...schizophrenic In its plot, so I guess it figures. But, what was so repetitive about it? I've never played it, it looks awesome!

The repetitive part was the combat. I honestly never played it myself, but my roommate was all excited for it and he beat it in 4 hours.
Let alone he sucks at games.

Doesn't seem like much to go off of.

Truthfully, I've never been a huge fan of hack and slash games, but the reviews alone for the game aren't enough for me. When I purchase a game, I make sure it will provide me with 15+ hours of gameplay minimum!
Oh and I forget to mention. Apparently if you play on super hard or something, the final boss is like impossible to beat.

So, you REALLY like games that have more bang for your buck? Like, with story and cutscenes?

It's a wonderful series, happy that people still enjoy it to this day. I wish I could complete the first one on Nintendo though. My brothers and cousins have, but not me. XD I only completed Metal Gear 3 on easy.
