They explained the titles name late, not early.

It was a backtracking band aid type of explanation. it's because he's "King" of....."His power" that "only 3 can have...or something" and "can be stolen like command spells in Fate/series" because "I said so"

His friendship problems were also added rather late. They evolved his powers the moment they relalized him borrowing everybodys power required them to give everybody screen time, and they didn't want that.

I don't find the fact that the title of the anime is not 100% fully understandable until later in the anime to be a fault, but in fact one of the beautifully mechanized parts of the anime, so I don't really see how this particular complaint weighs Guilty Crown down at all. It's called foreshadowing, by the way.

In my opinion, I think Guilty Crown has been quite a ride for me. Think of it as love-hate relationship (if that makes sense). I was intrigued by the story. Every episode made me want to watch another and another, but there came the second half of the show. Every becomes very grim in this part. I really did get frustrated with everyone undermining Shu because he's doing the best he can to ensure everyone is safe (which apparently is never enough). Now when
, this spelled disaster to Shu as he became crazy and the episodes afterwards just left me with emotional trauma. The plus side at the end is that it ended well for me. Everyone got a piece of closure and it was kinda sweet that Shu still tries to remember Inori. The point here is that the show is really good for me

Don't get me wrong, I like Guilty Crown as an anime a lot. But I feel that the forum is about what we dislike about Guilty Crown.

the title for Guilty Crown wasn't fore-shadowed. It was fore-thought. The introduction of more king's candidates should have been the focus of the second arc, instead of Shu's group-antics with everybody at the school.

The series took you out of the king's conflict, something that should have been at the forefront, in order to show teen drama and kingly choices. Shu Ouma didn't become kingly until the final arc, in which he actually shouldered the burden of his friend and one random faceless-mook dying of Crystal-cancer.

Guilty Crown was ungraceful. It's not something to hate, but something that we should strive to do better than. It's not of an acceptable quality to be great, but it had every right to be.

Why did they mess it up?

I literally finished Guilty Crown less than an hour ago, and I honestly feel sadly drained and empty. I'm not sure I can say exactly why yet, but that's to be expected.

Here are my initial impressions (negative):
1. There are some beautiful moments, but they weren't consistent enough.
2. Inori did not have very much dialogue, and that was frustrating considering there was a love story going on.
3. The ending? I count that as a sad ending, and I don't like sad endings.
4. For a show with as dark a tone as this, there weren't enough moments of light peeking through. And that is my biggest gripe with the show as a whole.

And initial impressions (positive):
1. Impressive work on Shu, moving him from what his is at the beginning to what he is at the end.
2. I was actively uncomfortable at several points in the show, which I mean in a good way.
3. Guilty Crown is the perfect name for this show.
4. First OP was the best song in the whole show.
5. There were so many "real" (for lack of a better word) moments in this show.

Also, after this and FMA, I'm basically terrified of all government xD

EDIT: Three minutes later and things are already starting to solidify in my head.

1. I am SICK of watching people leave people behind. I would rather have had Shu and Inori go out together than watch Shu get left behind. Inori dying cheapens Shu's role as the king and (I mention it only because I'm upset) it's a huge plot hole/cliche. How does she have the ability to take the virus all her self? But whatever.
2. If a show is going to be dark, the darkness has to be there to emphasize the light. The whole there is no light without darkness thing is bogus. But it was pretty gray there at the end.

Only thing I did not like about guilty crown was the ending. Poor Shu, being blind + having a fake arm sure takes the cake as having a kak life after losing Inori. Both shouldnt of suffered at the end. Sigh.. wouldve been better to see them together at the end, cause of the fact that Inori was finally discovering what love is. ohwell~ we won't get a season 2 anytime soon or at all, bad ending made me in a bad mood :/

I'm new here but I must say that I LOVED this anime. I've watched quite a few Anime's myself and GC has definitely shot to the top of my list. I definitely understand others have different opinions and taste but for me, it was a blast. I loved the visuals, music, characters, story, etc. As for the ending, it was sad but it didn't stop me from restarting shortly after. I bought it on Bluray and also purchased 2 episodes from iTunes to show support.
Honestly I don't see how this anime gets so much hate but again, people have different taste so I have to respect that. I would love to see more things for Guilty Crown but it seems like it may be a while (if ever), fingers crossed
