From the New World is my winner.

There were a few glaring problems with Psycho Pass in regards to its world that were revealed only towards the end of the series (there are some plot related spoilers)
I'm likely mixing up some details of the scenario, but what's important was that I felt terribly unimpressed with Psycho Pass's climactic set up. This really blunted the poignancy of the ending.

From the New World in my eyes really only suffered from pacing issues in its second half. Regardless, it was one of the more original stories I've seen to date, and... well, I don't really feel like showering the show with too much praise, as I don't like overhyping things.

If you're up for it I recommend watching at least to the end of episode 4.

Episode 2 for me was almost entirely unnecessary, episode 3 gave a really dark sense of foreboding and ep4 starts giving out some answers. I was only sure that the show would go in a good direction after watching episode four.

Will have to go copy my reasoning to vote against SSY from previous thread before I cast my vote properly for Psycho Pass. Doing this from my phone at work with 1 bar is brutal.

Psycho-Pass

Because Gen is the man with the plan.

I'm sure SSY must be good and all but I really don't plan on watching it anytime soon. I hope PP wins. I mean for a non-Crunchyroll broadcast to make it to the final on this thread is a testament to how good it is. Let's give it the title already...

Wow, the final round already? Wow that went fast....
My final vote goes to Psycho-pass because I love it a lot, the action scenes, the characters, the concept, I can't describe any more of it. Will you do more of these? I really enjoyed it!

Shin Sekai Yori because it had a good ending for the anime than Pyscho Pass. The ending for Pyscho Pass wasn't as filing enough for my expectations for the series.

So, we're left with two thrillers that both have a lot to say about corrupt societies. I think both series handled corrupt society issues equally well, albeit in different ways. As for the thriller part, I think From the New World edges it. From the New World created a situation where things were slowly going wrong over several years, and that buildup was something exquisite. I felt that the tension in Psycho-Pass was too convenient to the point that it almost felt manufactured. For these reasons, I vote for From the New World.

I vote for Shinsekai Yori.
- Amazing plot
- Solid characters
- Beautiful scenaries
- Really artistic
- Chilling atmosphere & music

Pyscho-Pass, on the other hand, is obviously in need of a second season.

I actually love both series, but I like Shinsekai Yori more.

These shows were neck-and-neck for me right up to the last couple episodes. I was fascinated by Psycho-Pass once I got used to Akane's weird character design, and once Makishima showed up in earnest the story really took off for me. I've seen people object (reasonably) to a couple things, but I'm unlikely to notice something like shallower side characters if the show is confidently directing my attention elsewhere. And Makishima definitely held my attention.

In the case of Psycho-Pass, I thought their handling of side characters was very similar between Kagari, Ginoza, Kunidzuka, and Masaoka in Psycho-Pass and Ishikawa, Saito, Paz and Borma in Ghost in the Shell. Almost identically, really. In both cases I didn't have difficulty in personifying their characters (compared to, say, keeping all the deep-voiced male masters in Fate/Zero straight in my head; it was like they all had the same Seiyuu and body language).

Shin Sekai Yori, on the other hand, impressed me with its incredibly unconventional horror. It made me feel fear vicariously as things subtly didn't make sense, which was amazing. And the whole build-up with the impure cats was crazily well done. I also had no trouble taking the kids seriously; I thought they acted appropriately for a society that was in constant fear of itself. But I do wish some arcs had been told from a different perspective than Saki's.

The deal-breaker was Shin Sekai Yori 22-24, though.

So yeah, Psycho-Pass and Shin Sekai Yori were running side-by-side for me until Shin Sekai Yori tripped over its hurdles for three consecutive weeks, allowing Psycho-Pass to pass the finish line first as my favorite of 2012.

So I vote for Psycho-Pass. Even though it wasn't perfect.

And I hope I never see one of my favorite shows screw up as badly as Shin Sekai Yori did ever again.

Edit: And why do people say Psycho-Pass needs a second season. The ending was supposed to be left open, that was the whole point of its construction. If the story had closure it would be telling you the answer to the question it posed.

I had to google this since I wasn't sure if I remembered correctly or not - but it was said that if Psycho-Pass got enough support that there might be another season. I am happy either way.

It looks like the director said something to that effect at a Q&A panel, so I guess. I just don't get why people think the first season was "unfinished" when it definitely wasn't, though; how it ended was explicably intentional.

I like both NetrisTess' and insomnist's criticisms to the endings of both shows.

One little bonus for Shin Sekai Yori is that I'm more grateful for the fact that it exists than I am for Psycho-Pass, which is not necessarily to say that I liked it better, but that it probably added to the anime world for being the exact show it was. It was much more unconventional than Psycho-Pass in so many ways. Hopefully it will leave a mark, seeing as so far it's just turning out to be the best show no one watched this or last year. I wonder how big of a deal this thread will be outside of CR when it's over?

Pyscho Pass gets my vote

Was an intricate story. Futuristic take on how society as a whole "should be" (depending on different characters point of view and the machinations on who determines what justice is and what one's path in life can or cannot be) whether it be democractic, republic, socialistic, fascistic, totalitarian, etc... Great psychological anime.

SSY definitely had its dramatic moments and some of the characters were interesting but from episode 10 onward I was disappointed and there was several time jump gaps as the story progressed to the end and even near the end I had questions about events that were unfilled by the final episode. I wouldn't mind reading the LN on SSY because it sounded like from the thread things would be explained better but I still cannot give it enough to overcome Psycho Pass.
