Congrats to From the New World for winning the 2012 Battle. I loved the series and it is very deserving of the crown. I enjoyed seeing everyone's opinions on all the series and comparing them against my own. Thanks to Chrome for hosting this entire contest - it is much appreciated. I suppose I'll see you all again at the 2013 Battle (or whatever battle pops up next.) Either way, I hope to have finally watched Space Brothers by then - wish me luck.

I think the 2013 battle would have a strong contender in Kara no Kyoukai if it's eligible.

No, Chrome already decided we don't want to do that. We are done with 2012 anime here.

They're omitting Paradox Spiral. INSTANT HATRED.

Edit: Actually I can't think of how they'd possibly cut Paradox Spiral into episodes, so I'll let that pass. And they dropped the sixth movie, which is a huge net gain. 1-4 & 7 should do just fine for 13 episodes I think. Ok, I'm happy.

And I could totally see Kara no Kyoukai sweeping everything else we'll see this year. I hope CR gets to stream it.

That's quite alright. However, I never made it sound like (or said) that Gintama was crude all throughout. I only stated that the scenes I personally selected and pasted into the spoiler box were of that sort and even pointed out other good points about Gintama. By the way, I edited that post before you replied back but you didn't catch it so here you go!

EDIT: Here are some videos. It's on the lesser side in terms of what Gintama truly has to offer on serious topics/fights but I thought it'd help.

I'm not sure I'd call Gintama crude, at least not by American standards.

Wacky would probably be a better word.

Yeah, I should have said wacky instead of crude. It's a better fitting adjective.

P.S. Gurren Lagann is great. I can't say the same for Wagnaria since I only read the manga for it, but I can say that it's pretty cute from what I read.

Wow, was that really over a year ago? At least I was able to find this forum. Anyways, I finally finished season 1 of Gintama today, and I will admit that I thought it was good. You're right, wacky is a great way to describe it. I think my favorite part might be Gintoki's dialogue; it is hilarious. I didn't care for it when it did get crude, but luckily this wasn't overbearing or constant. While I won't rank it among my favorite anime, I did enjoy the series overall, which is impressive since I was initially against watching it.

What's funny looking back at these posts over a year ago is that I actually haven't watched Gurren Lagann yet. For some reason I guess I keep pushing it back. I did watch Wagnaria!!, which I greatly enjoyed, as well as others including Fate/Zero, which was outstanding.

WOW. It really has been a long time. I don't remember the last time I've participated in discussions like these. I sound so enthusiastic in them hahaha. Thanks for bringing back these memories first of all. Second, HOORAY on finishing season one of Gintama! Huzzah! Banzai! Lots of cheering and fireworks exploding in the air! Seriously, that made my week. Thanks for giving it an honest try. I'm glad you liked it. Gintoki's dialogue is hilarious, agreed. (He's my favorite character with Okita following behind as a close second). Best part is as you progress through the rest of the episodes and get to really know the other characters, you'll find that they can be just as funny. Do you have plans on continuing it?

I keep pushing back Fate/Zero myself. Good thing the summer is still ongoing!

I do plan on continuing it, but along with the other catalog and simulcast series I'm watching, I'm trying to finish another long-running series... Pokémon. (Yeah, that right! I said it!) I had it on-hold for a good while, and I've been wanting to finally finish it. Of course, I watched Pokémon as a kid, eventually stopped, and then years later picked it back up. I have watched nearly all of seasons 1-13, and I stopped with the first few episodes of season 14 (I don't intend to continue beyond this). However, apart from the banned or unaired episodes, there's a good chunk of episodes in seasons 3-5 that I never saw. I would like to watch them and finally finish the original series. I'll probably pick Gintama back up again when I'm done with that.
