Sales are more what count for second seasons. BTOOOM! has manga too but its manga doesn't sell super great and its disc sales really stank -- I bought it... but not many more did, 300 sales per volume sucks.

For sales the rankings were:

#1 Tari Tari did quite well, averaging almost 10500 sales on volume 1!

#2 Ano Natsu de Matteru sold over 7000 on volume 1.

#3 Jormungand sold almost 2400 on volume 1.

#4 BTOOOM! 300 as I said.

Do you have any idea why it sold so bad?
I mean, much much worse anime gave far better figures than these.

BTOOOM! sold badly because few people bought it

Survival anime doesn't sell that well. Seinen manga adaptations generally don't do well. But SAO in many ways is a game adaptation, survival and yet it sold really well, one of the best sellers of the year. So it really is hard to say but SAO had huge light novel sales while BTOOOM! was not really that well known. Even Mimori Suzuko as Himiko couldn't save it.

Maybe Madhouse productions didn't help? They never do sequels anyway.

Makes me wonder how well Mirai Nikki fared.
Oh well.

Mirai Nikki did poorly as well though not quite as poorly, 2336 sales of volume one. Mirai Nikki source material was more well known but still not enough to reach break even on sales.

@ hpulley. I imagine that Future Diary(Mirai Nikki) will do well enough for Funimation though.

I think Madhouse could break their no sequels rule with Oda Nobuna since that did decently enough to get a sequel(I recently decided to watch that and SAO to see what I missed during the summer. Oda Nobuna so far more enjoyable than SAO which is just OK for me(finished episode 5 a few days ago)

Don't worry, there's still Mirai Nikki Redial:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/16762/Mirai_Nikki_Redial

We can see more Mirai Nikki's yandere Yuno Gasai later this year.

As regarding Btooom!, I have it as last place. It's not because I hate the series but the fact that I liked the others more in particular Jormungand. Sadly, there's almost no chance we'll ever seen a third season given where the manga is.

Oh yes, my sales numbers are Japanese sales only. I am not counting any north american licensed home video market sales. I can get those too but they don't help you get a sequel though they can help the sequel get home video licensing in north america!

According to MAL, it's Mad that's doing CF2.

Yes, you're both right. Sorry, should have checked my source on that one before saying that. Now that I check I see they have done a bunch of sequels.

Rest assured my sales numbers are well sourced:

4. Btooom! (Prolly because it's the only one I watched in the list)
3.Jormungand (Heard a lot of good stuffs about this)
2. Tari Tari (Animation style looks better than the one below)
1. Ano Natsu de Matteru (The reason above)

There you go sis, I'm only here to give you some support.

I've only completed about 50 anime series so far... really not much of a fan you see.

You don't really need to be a fan to watch a lot of anime. What you need is a lot of time, patience, and hair V_V.

The single most important thing everyone needs is a strong forehead, the amount of facepalming is intense.

Back to btooom! it aired with a lot of other storyboards that trampled over itself, and it snow balled from there. I am not saying the anime is mediocre; however, relative to its season it really didn't shine out if it had been aired with another group of anime it might have obtained a higher sales rate. Fall anime season tends to be (imo) a more competitive season in terms of producing anime and better to good animes at that.

The manga is doing fine I believe but the anime and manga sales are somewhat separate entities.

In particular 2012 we had the flagship anime in the summer and many (new) people honestly started with SAO and tried to find something similar and btooom! couldn't match SAO in many aspects. So this could also of affected the sales results.

Btooom! is in no way a mediocre anime I would suggest anyone who have not seen it to give it a try. It is different it has a good pacing, a well defined plot and character development. It also shows the ugly side of man when we are tested for survival and you as the audience get to engage in a moral question do I want to shed my humanity for the sake of my survival or keep my sanity and possibly die. This is the general consensus you would face if you watch btooom!.

1. Jormungand - Will inevitably be compared to Black Lagoon and while not as visceral and engrossing as BL, Jormungand still managed to keep my interest throughout both seasons. Mainly in part due to the fun characters and and slick editing.

2. Ano Natsu de Matteru - A great premise of a romance story but ultimately the show couldn't put all its pieces together.

3. Tari Tari - Decent drama but nonetheless still too conventional to be considered anything other than normal anime fare.

4. Btooom! - Lots of action and great to look at but I don't remember it having much else going for it.

4 pt-Ano Natsu de Matteru i really enjoy the otaku style to this romantic with a little comedy. its a fun twist that held its own from beginning to end.

3 pt-Jormungand really like this show, couldn't get my eyes off, but hated the way she changed views to the audience. really close 1st, mainly cuz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aTJAQpJBdc

1 pt -Tari Tari never seen it, looks interesting and would like to pick it up one day but since i didn't see it i can't properly evaluate it.

2 pt-Btooom! was really interesting at first, but the series got dull to me because i don't think it will continue in another season. rather a bad ending than not finishing.
