Natsume Yuujinchou Shi- This is one of my favorite animes of all times! It has beautiful artwork a gripping story and characters that you can't help but fall in love with! It has a bit of everything that I enjoy in my anime all rolled into one; humor, drama, action and supernatural!!

Close one for me but I'll go with Kids on the Slope this time. The music and atmosphere of the show worked out only slightly more so than Natsume Yuujinchou Shi imo.

Now for an epic kick:

Wow, surprised these two are in the same category. This is like comparing Fiction versus Non-Fiction and asking which one is more realixtic and believable. I like Kids on the Slope immensely for the music, gritty atmospherics. You saw Japan bare its soul rather than apply lip gloss to its otaku image.

My choice: Natsume Yuujincho Shi: warm inviting story returning identities to lost souls and collective redemption without becoming too syrupy or sappy. Thoroughly enjoyed the series and always looked forward to more adventures in the mystical realm though I worried the main character was relying upon his yokai protector a little too much midway through the 3 Seasons. Also have to agree in concert with 1 of the earlier posters about favorites. This show is in my top seven list.

Natsume Yuujinchou shi

I haven't seen Kids on the Slope but it doesn't matter. Natsume Yuujinchou shi is the fourth season of my favorite anime of all times. Nothing beats it. It has good music and I loved the art style. Natsume Yuujincho is so beautiful, sad, sweet and bittersweet at the same time. It made me cry almost 95% of the episodes. I loved the characters in Natsume Yuujinchou, especially Natsume and Nyanko-sensei The ending of Natsume Yuujinchou shi (and the whole series) was amazing for me. I loved the ending very much.

Natsume Yuujinchou Shi

The animation, the character development, the invested feeling you get in every storyline - that is why this anime (and the manga as well) are superb and I would tell anyone to watch this in a heart beat. It is definitely one of my favorites.

my vote goes to Natsume Yuujincho-shi

Both are so good. Kids on the slope is a great drama, music, romance anime. As the story progresses, it's getting better and intense..

But really, I fell in love with Natsume Yuujincho more. So relaxing, very heartwarming, each story is so touching. I also love the OST and I think I said before in this forum, I love Natsume and Nyanko-sensei... They are so adorable...

Kids on the Slope
I have now watched several episodes of Natsume, and I do really like it, so expect to finish it. But Slope was just different enough that I found it especially appealing. And the music was indeed amazing. I don't tend to buy much anime-related product, but I broke that pattern by buying both the manga "soundtrack" and the OST for the anime. That's evidence of how much of a favorite this one is.

There's no question for me, Kids On The Slope. When I watch this, I am Kaoru. If you have ever moved to a new city during your later school years, that's how you feel, completely out of place. All you can do at first is fall back and try to excel in your schoolwork and hobbies like music. And what music! If you think all jazz is just discordant noise, you need to watch this if only for the reason to dispel that notion.

To make new friends or even talk to people is hard. Then to encounter (what seems like) a bully when you're smaller and weaker, when all you want to be is alone to breathe, is downright scary. And to have him take notice of you personally instead of slipping below his notice, oh, I can feel that.
that's really heartwarming.

And the awkwardness of having your first girl attraction because she was nice to you.
So what do you do, try and fail? Or not try and regret it the rest of your life?

As stated before, the ending was ok, it did wrap it up neatly, but perhaps it was a bit too compacted. I would have liked this to show in more detail how they each went on to be where they finally wound up, and to have kept the music going during that. But I can see it wouldn't have been enough for a full second season. I really got immersed in the ride to the end.
