It's overused, doesn't mean it has no meaning though.

I expect lots of bitching in this thread about how "OMG this generation doesn't know what love is" from the arm armchair sociologists of the internet. Because people were all about love in the past. In before "but divorce rates" (people couldn't get divorced as easily in the past, less stigma due to reasons beyond it being more common, etc.).

Pretty much this (even though you're a Steelers fan ).

I feel that the high rate of divorce is due to people getting caught up in "falling" in love. People seem to skip over the operational word in that term, "falling", which implies that it's something you have no control over, it just happens.

What people begin to realize as relationships go on, and the initial head over heels phase has passed, is that love is something you have to work on. If you find someone that can be your partner in life, then instead of being comfortable in the relationship, treat everyday as if you're still in the dating phase.

No .... if we base it off of our parents/grandparents version of " LOVE " ... look how sad depress and lonely they can be .. wondering about what could have been ... being together for 50 years just to keep up appearances and a social norm is stupid ... if a person stays together just for a kid , for money is wrong as well ... now mind you a person may be able to truly love only one person for life ...but my personal experince from the married people i know who been married for lets say at least 25 years ... are not the true example of love

Love lost its meaning decades ago.

Most seem to think love stands for Legs Open Very Easy.

Hint: that's not love...

Yes it has indeed..it had lost its meaning a long, long time ago sadly..it'll come back?

It has taken on a new meaning; jealously alienating your partner, cheating, and dumping them not long into the relationship.

The word love has definitely lost its meaning. People throw it around like it means nothing these days.

Love in today's society seems more like a material thing created by one or more individuals. I don't think many people know what love is really. I think most of it is just surface or love out of necessity. I believe love has a source in where it originated before anyone was even capable of it. So what is the essence of love? Does anyone know?

Love has lost it's meaning pretty hard. As soon as 2 people get together they automatically (most of them if not all) blurt out the words "I love you!" *smh* A day or 2 later they brake up, hook up with someone else and waste the sacred word. Bunch of clowns that are just looking to "bang" and not love~ just my 2cents on this.

I personally don't feel like its lost its meaning, but I feel that fewer people are either 1). feeling it to its full extent, or 2). expressing it in a way that does it justice.

However, I do feel as though almost every time "love" is used in the media, there's almost no meaning behind it. I've felt that way ever since I read La Vita Nuova. Now there, in my humble opinion, is a work written by someone who was truly and deeply in love. But that's just me

It's really sad to see "love" tossed around like it's any other word. I don't think it's value is the same as it was, say, 10 years ago. I'm also sick of every other song in the world being about love. I feel like that's the default theme if you want a hit song. I don't even think half the artist who sing of it are even in love, let alone have ever left it. It just really disappoints and frustrates me.

^ I, chase6565, support this post. Love has definitely lost its meaning in the world.

Ten years ago you were six and didn't notice or care about the overuse of "love". Let this one go, and maybe stop listening to pop radio for a while.
