What's your weightlifting story? How did you begin? Are you still lifting today?

I began weightlifting when my football team lost in the championships. Not embarrassed to say that I cried, a lot of us did. So I got a gym membership a week later and went into the gym knowing nothing. Like most beginners, I did biceps and triceps only. I began researching on proper workouts and all those shenanigans. A year and a half later and still lifting, I can say that I have come a long way.

Finally, list some stats.

My benchpress isn't impressive, but my legs is where it's at.

1RM
Squats: 505 lbs ATG
Deadlift: 595 lbs
Bench: 235 lbs

I had no problems with any weight lifting except for those dang squats. No matter what I did (using proper technique and all) they still feel so awkward and hurt my back. I mean I believe I was doing them right because my athletics coach said they looked good. I just hated them so much. I still do some exercise here and there but 9th grade was when I was actually doing serious lifting.

I don't know bout you but in 'murica most of our teams in HS work out during the season and off seasons.

^Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. ^ I mean Goku didn't just defeat Cell without some bad ass Hyperbolic time chamber training. (NERD REFERENCE) (/NERD REFERENCE)

How is your posture? The curvature of your spine can affect where you feel pressure when doing squats. Also if you have a weak lower back, it can fuck you up something serious. I just snapped my shit all up a few weeks ago doing squats because I have been neglecting my lower back. Ive decided to only do seated leg press and hamstring curls till I can build up my lower back to do squats again.

Haha nice. Can't tell you how many times that happened to me benching back in high school. My right arm and chest are weaker than my left (3 guesses why).

Correct sir. And you even got the order right.

I think my posture was always pretty good in doing squats. Granted I wasn't the best at maintaining that good posture while doing them but my athletics coach never criticized me too much about my form. Squatting just isn't for me I think. But in the end there probably was a problem with my posture because it always hurt my back a little. I'm just glad I don't have to do them anymore. Do you actually enjoy squats? Haha if it were me I'd just keep using leg machines and forget risking my back.

I never did squats when I was younger. I always used the excuse that I had bad knees (which was bullshit). I figured out how to strengthen my knees to be able to comfortably do squats just recently but I dont have the lower back strength to do heavy squats. I try to focus more on legs now because I dont want to have a huge upper body and chicken legs.

Hahaha that pics terrible man but I feel ya. If I ever started doing some serious lifting again I'd definitely make sure to get in some leg work too to stay proportional.

Yeah I know. I live in Canada. Here, we're not as dedicated to football as Americans, I wish we were, but we're not :|

Sweet a chance to show all the ladies how much of a bamf I am. Bro, I pro lift 12 packs of soda into shopping carts like you wouldn't believe. Old ladies be like, yo... you're so strong, get me one of those 24 packs and I'm all like... Whoa sista... This is MURICA, back dat cart over here and push one of the top ones so that it falls in cause them 24 packs be heavy otherwise you cray. After which I go home and proceed to lift enormous bags of groceries out of my trunk and into my fridge.

Joking aside I lift irregularly to stay in shape but I'm fairly happy with my current balance between muscle and agility. That and my current college job involves 5-50 lbs boxes/bags lifting so its kinda pointless to go to the gym when I can do cardio jogs on weekends to fill the cardio gap.

Started taking martial arts (Jujitsu) when I was around 8 for about 4 years then I got bored of it (kids these days >_>) anyway once I got into High School I started working out again mostly for attention, but after a while I just started doing it for myself, cause I like the feeling of pushing my limits and getting stronger (looking in the mirror and seeing washboard abs isn't a bad deal either though I still need to work on my diet). Anyway it just feels good to workout. And I'm not trying to get super big or anything just staying toned getting some definition and cut is satisfying enough. (my god I'm commenting a lot today -_-')
