Technical reasons: localization costs, mostly. A third party has to invest in bringing that content to you, and it's not cheap (nor is it a guaranteed profit... at all). I imagine there's a larger market in the US, simply in terms of population size, so it's probably easier to handle licensing fees and the like here without as much risk.

In general though, do you mean anime actually being televised or being able to walk into a store and buy it on DVD?

If the latter, can't you get on Amazon UK and buy anything we could here in the US?

We arent in the same region, in any way at all. Even region encoding we use Region 2/PAL where as Japan uses NTSC-J which is not so different from NTSC.

Really it comes down to licensing fees and a bad spiral. Theres little officially streamed anime in the UK so few UK viewers watch it legitimately so theres little incentive to pay the license fee to get anime for us to watch. Recently CRs been doing a good job though, theres only 1 or 2 this season we cant see, where we really get screwed is in the back catalog, most of whats actually here I cant even see let alone watch.

Assuming AoD gets its act together again expect to see more anime for us

And its much easier to get canada just thrown in with a USA license than it is europe, especially when you might have to deal with every individual country in europe and bid against localized streamers (though that said the only one i know of is AoD)

There are some animes which are both region A and B but this depends on if you have a blu ray player.
But I bought a multiregion blu ray player so I don't have to worry about that anymore

But I know what you mean it sucks!

That's licensing; companies in the US are simply paying for the rights to shows companies in the UK aren't.

Are there shows here on Crunchyroll we get that you're unable to watch in the UK? I'd be curious if that was the case.

Huh, I didn't know that. Maybe the UK has a tougher approval process? Or just more licensing again.

I think I remember reading that it can be pretty tough to get some things approved in Australia (who then turned around and put Puella Magi Madoka Magica on children's morning programming somehow), so it might be a similar situation.

You can watch My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and Photo Kano on www.anime-on-demand.com (although they only have two episodes up of both so far). The only shows on Crunchyroll new to this season we can't see anywhere legally are Arata the Legend, Muromi-san and Samurai Bride, which is pretty good going.

Probably for the same sort of reason I can't download the kindle version of Terry Pratchett's "The World of Poo (Discworld)" from amazon.co.uk (and it's not available on Kindle in the US site). Someone needs to sort out all this region licensing nonsense. I had to wait about a year to get movie versions of Hogfather, Going Postal, and The Color of Magic, too...

Becaus the licensors are stupid, and don't want to make as much money as possible.
Their own fault that people choose to pirate anime.
