Searched around and couldn't find any similar thread, though my question is how often does Crunchyroll add animes to it's library that aren't a part of the season line-ups that it simulcasts.
Anime's like ones that aired a few years ago, and what does it take to get Crunchyroll to add them? Do they decide what to add on a whim?

Seeing them announce Gurren Lagann and R.O.D. sparked this question. Haven't even been here a month so a little in the dark on Crunchyrolls workings.

From what Iv'e noticed so far the bulk come from current running shows while shows that have finished are mainly random. I know that you can request they pick up specific shows and believe there is a forum for it in the premium section.

We never know (or rarely - there was that one moment when that one site said CR got Toradora or something before CR even announced it)

I would assume they'd just need to buy the shows from the various publishers. And certain publishers will obviously have contracts with other parties. So it wouldn't be that easy.

Complete guess work, though. I'd love to know how it all works.

I read a while ago that Crunchyroll signed a contract with Aniplex, so I should have seen at least one of these coming, but Gurren Lagann is such a pleasant surprise still.

I found out on Twitter. In fact, there's a lot of juicy anime news bits floating around in the Twittersphere, so maybe that's how you can find hints as to what CR will get next.

I hope its additions of titlle that are first seasons of different simlicast shows. I hope that one of those boxes is the oreimo ovas!

From the thread:

R.O.D.
Starting this Sunday at 12 noon PDT, premium members will get the first 13 episodes, while free members get 3 per week.

Synopsis: From bulletproof dragons to lock-picks, a paper master manipulates paper to their will. In Hong Kong, three young paper masters, Anita, Maggie and Michelle, use their formidable skills to protect Nenene, an author targeted by a mad bomber. As their bodyguard duties take them to Tokyo, they will be educated on the dangers of literacy!

So at least the first part will be up on Sunday. You'd think it wouldn't be too long after that until the rest goes up since subtitles already exist.

does putting in new shows have any correlation with pulling old shows?

No, as far as I know there is no limit to how many titles can be available at once on Crunchyroll. The contracts to allow them to stream them just expire or some other crazy bs happens that they have to take it down.
