Hello,
I recently started another thread on "subtitles" and related forum topics. After I did so, I could find no way in my profile settings or in the forum message editor to indicate that I wanted to get email notification if someone responded to my post.

In the profile settings there is a "Quoted forum post" notification setting, but this description is ambiguous. Can a thread response be posted without a quote from the original poster? If so, what does this "quoted forum post" notification accomplish? There seems to be no obvious way to just select an option somewhere to be notified if someone posts a thread response.

I also couldn't find a way to enter a default signature. Is there an option to do this somewhere? If so, where is it?

Thanks for your time,
Alan Mintaka

You mean...kind of like how a "thread subscription" would be on another forum?

That'd be nice in some cases.

Forum posts do not need to contain a quote to count as having quoted you. For instance, this post will give you a notification, but I didn't include the quote of your post. At the same time, I could post a quote of your post without it counting as a quoted post. What it is really referring to is the use of the 'quote' link to quote your post. If someone uses it, then you will get the notification regardless of the post's contents.

There is, unfortunately, no built-in way to subscribe to threads, so you would have to rely on third-party solutions. Also, there are no signatures at all, the most you can do is set your status which will appear at the bottom of your posts like mwhitco's.

In the past, I believe you could "Favorite" threads where you could keep track of what's going on your thread and would get a notification when someone responded to your topic; I didn't really use this feature and not really certain the last statement, but for sure, there was a "Favorites" feature for keeping track of your threads. Ever since some of the overhauls, some of these features are phased out.

I think that there should be a "Forum Wish List" thread here on the Help/Support/Feedback section to address some of these things.

Thanks beardfist,

I did get an email notification of your post, though the link in the post was broken. I had to navigate back here using my Crunchyroll bookmarks.

It's kind of a lame feature. You check the "Quote" box and reply, but none of the text in the first post is quoted in the reply - yet you can use the "quote" option to be notified?

First time I've ever seen a forum work this way. It's not exactly intuitive, and the broken links in the email notifications don't help.

I've also been getting a random error message, "Sorry, an error occurred", when I try to access any page in the forum. I get successful loads of forum pages only about 50% of the time.

Granted they have to spare bandwidth for the video streams, but really.... broken notification links and vague error messages?

So far, I'm not very impressed with this website. But thanks for letting me know about that bizarre implmentation of a "quote" option in these threads.

Stranger than truth!

Hey zendude,

Maybe a new thread with that title might kick things off, though if a hack member like me starts it, it won't be a "sticky."

Still, the way things are going, I may have enough separate threads going in the next few days to consolidate into one that's called "Forum Wish List."

Thanks for the input,

I am just going to combine my response from the other thread to here to space some time and space.

I've been on these forums for a long time now, almost 5 years actually, so I am kind of aware of what has gone down those couple of years. In the past, the forums actually has more features than now.

I have some hypothesis on why they minimalized and such, but I don't really think that assumptions will do any good but start up some fire with the mods again. I believe that they are working on the forums as mentioned to me by a certain "Support Mod", but I think that it's around the bottom of their laundry list in actually what they need to work on this site: videos, maintaining paid subscribers, improving marketability and moving products, and their mobile apps. Looking from this list and looking at it in a perspective relatives to this site's premium real estates on the site, the sub feature of forums isn't really their main attraction and probably is far from it. (There is an exception to this, and I can name a certain thread on the forums that manages to outscore some of the home front page content in a daily basis.)

But hey, they probably have their reasons to why they stripped down the forums from the way what it was to the way it is. I don't really know; I only really have assumptions. Or maybe, to put simply, the "forum" system in idea, relatives to this point of time of communications and fiscableness, is just "Old Hat" and unexciting to the new kids in the block. But let me just tell you, their forum search was a bit more advance in searching things than the current in place.

I'll be happy to help you out if you do do the "Forum Wish List". Give me a head up of what's up, and I'll give you a hand because I actually have a thread going on here that does addresses some of the vestigial buttons of the crunchyroll forum features; maybe we can combine the both ideas and inquire this together; we can probably get a better turn out that way. I don't mind exploring the nooks and cranny of the forum features; I kinda done that already in the years I've been here. Private message me anytime.

We probably won't get everything we want, and the process might take a while, but hell, not addressing any of these isn't going to do anything.

Other Notes:
- As for the "ERROR - reply posted !" message, I got that too. Though, it's very scarcely. Usually, it's around every two or four weeks around this time of day, after midnight State side. Maybe you just caught a bad timing with their maintenance.
- The video problems, from what I heard from other users, can stem from ISPs, the site's flash system, and/or just plain bad luck. For me though, I take the good from the bad. Plus, I've seen their improvement over the years, so I have faith that they are improving. Although, I can imagine myself being kinda turned off of this site if I just came in a couple of months with expectations and such being a paid user. But hell, it's better than Anime Network- some hells of a lot better.
- Don't worry the about ranting. You're in good company. "LAWL"

Things that I want to work on.

Please remember that we're a streaming site first so forum changes are only rolled out when I can wrangle the time from an engineer.
