Yeah, I think that Mandarin is the official language of China, with different dialects in different regions or something, kind of like Spanish in Spain. In Taiwan, a lot of students learn Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English together, as far as I know. (At least, my cousins are.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, please, because I'm actually not too positive about it. Wikipedia time! =P

well just to keep everything PC, Taiwan and China have issues over whether or not Taiwan is completely independent or not. so we can't completely catergorize them under "Mandarin is the official language of China"...lol. boyyy do they have issues.

I mostly grouped the dramas by languages, in this case Mandarin, rather than having taiwan, hong kong, singapore, etc.

But in Taiwan, I think the official language is Mandarin, because most of my Taiwanese friends speak Mandarin... But usually, the dramas are Taiwanese, because on DramaWiki, there are hardly any dramas listed as Chinese. All (if not, most) of the dramas discussed on this forum are under Taiwanese Dramas on DramaWiki... (Sorry if I'm wrong..) So if you were to re title the forum, it would be Mandarin Dramas ? But that doesn't sound right. XD So I think either Taiwanese Dramas or Chinese Dramas are fine for a title.

spoken like a true non-chinese lol. (and no offense meant by that). although i personally am all for taiwan being part of china (ew. i can't believe i've stepped into political discussion lol) mandarin is the official lingo of CHINA and IMO therefore taiwan. but in the opinion of taiwanese nationalists, it's still debatable. the dramas under dramawiki are referenced as "taiwanese" b/c that's where they're made in taiwan.

haha and don't worry denote i wasn't trying to critisize your thread title. i really appreciate that taiwanese dramas even get their own thread! i feel like they're somewhat under-represented...which could also be b/c they haven't been around as long as korean/japanese ones have so they're kinda just starting uot and piggybacking off the other 2 countries d^____^V. so no need to change.

yea, Tawainese are very nationalistic. I'm chinese but I have Tawainese friends. When people ask them if they're Chinese, they always (almost yell) no, I'm tawainese.
