Yea most of which that have lots of death involved in it. Usually i'm ok with all that, but when they start adding so many more things to these anime that are really necessary i begin to lose interest.

Personally i like happy endings, and i can't stand some of those anime with romance that ends badly. It really breaks my heart. As well as love triangles with 2 men...

I'd rather do a happy cry than a sad one. I'm sure i'm not the only one... No one wants to cry sadly.

I had the same fears before I watched Clannad, but it is now one of my favorite shows. It is just so beautiful and amazing. Yes, you will cry, but if you want to see a very high quality anime, Clannad and After Story are surely the ones to watch.

I can only find after story. But I agree with Ghab1, I don't wanna have my heart broken watching a show, i wanna have happy tears. I also cry when something is epicly awesome, dunno why but the awesome just builds up inside and bursts out into manly tears lol

Class3! I know what you mean! (While crying, shake hands) Finally someone who understands! I found myself randomly crying in even episodes of Naruto Ship. (For example) Which is self is pretty gloomy, but i mean c'mon it's Naruto... The pure epicness makes me want to go run a marathon.

I see what you guys are saying about not wanting to watch clannad and after story, Ghab and Class3. However, masterpieces of cinema, anime, and other types of art sometimes are sad. If every anime had a clear cut happy ending, wouldn't you start to feel cheated? I commend and absolutely love clannad after story because it shows the power of the human spirit, even when the characters face major hardships. There's something very beautiful and inspiring about feeling the pain as the show's characters do, and getting back up again as they do, no matter the circumstances. Maybe it's just me, but I really love anime that imitates real life.

On a side note, I always cry manly epic tears in avatar the last airbender when Azula totally beats people in logic, and then they are speechless, and I am

If more anime had happy ending, I'd find myself with more anime to watch haha! I'm not saying that there aren't any good anime that have sad ending. It's just that i want to be rewarded with something good after watching 50 hours straight of anime. This is a famous quote i have taken the liberty of spreading, "Harems are the best Endings" Meaning this... Don't make one happy and the other suffer, make them both happy.... or 3 or all 18 of them, don't matter... make them ALL happy! Haha!

Anime years are much like dog years. Every anime comes out with 1 episode a week, 50 hours would equal, 150 episodes Multiple it by 7 and thats 1050 days divide it by 365 days, would mean i just spent 2.9 years of this only to be cheated on. I'm sure your boyfriend/girlfriend could sugar coat it and and make it seem like he/she is a hero, but the fact remains, they freakin cheated on you!

I see what you're saying about the "harems are the best endings." However, I do not believe that the purpose of say, a 50 episode anime or a 26 episode anime, is to give each likable or good character a happy ending. I don't think you can compare a girlfriend/boyfriend cheating on you to having an anime show giving you an ending that you did not expect. No matter the outcome of an anime, I believe it has succeeded if it is a solid show overall, but most importantly, if the ending leaves you with something to ponder about or something to really think about that you never considered before.

If a 50 episode anime has a sad ending or if a character does not get matched with who you wanted him or her to get matched with, but the anime really presents something profound, I know that I have been rewarded.

This conversation reminds me of how I felt after watching Venus Versus Virus. Its not the saddest anime I've watched, but it had a pretty sad ending that left me feeling pretty cheated. I read the manga, which was pretty good and had a great ending with a satisfying closure. the anime however diverges from this and ends with the two main characters, who are in love with each other i might add, trying to kill each other. Thats how it ends, with them charging at each other, weapons drawn right before switching to a shot of a photo of them together and a voice over of one character saying how happy thet were to have met the other. When I saw this i wasn't sure if i should cry or throw my tv.

Well i do like unexpected Endings. Of course anyone would. No one likes to predict ending. But i like unexpectedly happy ending. To watch an anime series, "Some" people need to commit themselves to it, because our lives are hectic and busy. If i'm gonna watch an anime, i'd much MUCH rather watch something i like. Personal preference can't be persuaded, with simple math and whether if someone else liked the anime. But that's exactly what i meant in my first post. "Oh you gotta watch it, it's such a good story and really heart wrecking!" Because the fact remains the same, i don't like sad endings. Not to mention twice...

@ghab- fair point; you can't change personal preferences. I understand what you're saying. That was a good discussion.
