1) Which position(s) do you want?
Media Moderator
2) What makes you suitable for this position? Put your experiences and skills here (if any)
While I don't have any prior experience with moderating videos, I have been exposed to the anime world for a long time and know many of the anime series as well as whether or not the series descriptions are accurate. Additionally, I have research (i.e. Internet) skills that can help me keep up to date on whether or not certain series (anime and drama alike) are copyrighted. I am also experienced in writing summaries and descriptions for series and uploaded videos from a series (although I'm not fast enough to upload the entire series before other users). I suppose this isn't really a skill, but I have been on crunchyroll for an extremely long time and have seen all the numerous changes that have been installed, which is helpful for knowing what is right and what is wrong. I am extremely responsible and do not view any duties that I have lightly. I've been supporting CR from the time I first got my debit card, so there is no way that I would want to slack off in my duties because of this dedication. Additionally, although mostly for AMVs, I do have experience with MVs through my immersion in Asian music. I am able to keep relatively up-to-date on the latest artists in Asia as well.

(Edit for note) I realize my CR points are not exactly as high up there as those of other people's, but I usually try to stay away from fast-paced forums such as the CR forums because it feels like I don't have a chance to get to know anyone. However, I have contributed in terms of reporting any errors with the website and trying to make sure that things don't go too wrong. I am in fact more of a lurker (which is primarily the reason why I'm not going for forum moderator), so even though my presence isn't broadcasted, I'm still here. However, I will definitely try to make myself more well-known if chosen. Thanks!
3) What type of cr videos are you most familiar with (anime, drama, etc)?
I am most familiar with anime, drama, and music videos.
4) ForumMod only: what is your moderation style? How will you handle hostile cr users, etc?
5) How much time do you spend on CR? How much time will you be able to dedicate to CR?
I spend most of my online time on CR. And since I am online for most of the day, I am able to dedicate a lot of time to CR. Obviously, since this is the summer, I have more time than I can use. Although I am headed to college next year, which means I'm not sure how much time college life would take from CR, I am still willing to dedicate as much time as possible to CR.
6) Do you speak any languages other than English? If so, please indicate which.
Other than English, I speak Chinese (Mandarin) fluently.
7) Where do you live (timezone-wise)? Do you live outside the US?
I live in California's Bay Area, so that would be Pacific Time. Obviously, that means I don't live outside the US.

First of all, I would like to say that I, among the many other users on Crunchyroll, tremendously appreciate all the hard work both shinji and all the Forum and Media moderators have put into making this site the best it can possibly be.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to post this application earlier, because of exams and things of the sort! I wish everyone who has applied, good luck, though! Those making the decision about who will become the next media/forum moderators will have a really difficult time, as many of you are so suitable for the job ^^;

Application:

1) Which position(s) do you want?
Media Moderator

2) What makes you suitable for this position? Put your experiences and skills here (if any)
I unfortunately do not have any moderator experience, however it can be assured that I will give my all in to fulfilling the responsibility of a Media Moderator. Below are some of the qualities and skills I have, that are relevant to this role.

* I am a proud staff member of The_Onigiri (Featured Anime), therefore I can fulfill my obligations quite well. Once I begin something I am dedicated to it, until the end, no questions asked.

* While occasionally looking at the page that lists all the videos which have yet to be encoded (the "uploaded" page), I've seen the nonsense that some users upload. From this, I've come to understand that the job of a Media Moderator is too underrated (by some), and that the dedication and patience one must have in order to complete the duties assigned to this role is tremendous. I understand that being a moderator of any kind will be a stressful job, however I am completely certain that I will be able to handle this, as I am quite capable in stressful situations.

* Although I have not uploaded as many videos as some other CR users, I am very familiar with the rules and regulations as to what videos may be uploaded and not. As a CR user, I have been and will always comply with the restrictions that have been set for the uploading of videos, and as a Media Mod, I would have others do the same. To reiterate my previous *, some of what users upload are not sensible whatsoever, and are usually just to provide an increase in 'cr points' (for example: image files, some files with unknown extensions, hentai (adult) videos, etc.); therefore I think it is extremely important for a Media Mod to recognize and deal with users like these, accordingly.

* Approving Videos:
Anime, Dramas and Member Videos - In accordance with the uploading rules that shinji has set in place, I would moderate and filter all videos of these genres that go blatantly over the set 'PG-13' limit, or that have nothing to do with Asian culture (which is what Crunchyroll is about, of course!).
Music Videos - As I have learned through the words of a moderator of this site, as long as content of extremely explicit nature (e.g.: pornography) isn't present in a music video, it can be uploaded for viewers' viewing pleasure. In agreement with this, I have to say that I absolutely love watching the MVs of many Asian musicians, therefore I think it is essential that a music video should not be viewed for solely the visual content; an MV should be watched because of the song itself, and how the video portrays allegorical messages created by the lyrics and music of the song. That may be a bit intense, but I feel that in order to be able to upload and/or approve a music video, one needs to have that kind of mindset ^^;

* I am completely fluent in the English language, therefore I will be quite able to edit any grammar or spelling errors that may exist in the summaries of CR series'.
I've been told, by external sources, that I'm a 'Google God' (xD) - when given the chance to research a specific topic, I am able to find a lot of information on it, most of the time. Therefore, it is likely not to be a problem for me to find descriptions on different series' and musicians (that don't have summaries on the more mainstream Asian Entertainment information sites). Descriptions in a foreign language shouldn't be a problem, as a have a very accurate, computerized translator.

* Duplicate and copyrighted videos will both definitely be things I would look for, while on CR.
Duplicate videos are really a nuisance, as they unnecessarily use up bandwidth, as well as prevent users from making accurate assumptions as to how many episodes are in one series (when looking at the number of videos, on the main page of the series), among numerous other things.
Of course, with copyrighted videos being streamed it is likely that this site will be shut down or temporarily closed, at the very least - no one wants this!

* I am a big stickler for organization. Any kind of mess is quite unfavorable! As a CR user, I find it quite irritating when some videos are not where there should be (this does not happen often, as the present Media Moderators are absolutely amazing at what they do!); I know that a moderator, wanting to edit a summary or a video name/description, would have a much simpler time if the videos were sorted correctly, as well. It is because of this that, if given the role of Media Mod, I would definitely pay much attention to the sorting and organization of videos, to make the lives of both the CR users and moderators much easier.

* I think it is extremely important for a Media Moderator to have common courtesy for the rest of the users on this site, and not carry an air of superiority. If users PM me to ask something about a video on the site, media-related software, or some other third thing, I would be glad to aid them to the best of my ability; a moderator is there to provide help for members of a website, among other things. I think that in order to completely fulfill the obligations of a moderator, this condition must be met.

* I know BASIC programming language, as well as fundamental HTML (if that will be of any help xD) and I'm quite familiar with almost anything computer related ^^;. I also have embedding (subtitles), splitting (shows into parts) and media-viewing programs/software installed on my main computer.

* Negative point --> I'd just like to bring up the fact that I do not use any instant messengers, nor do I enjoy sitting idle in a chatroom (e.g.: gabbly or irc - no offense to those who do!), therefore the only way to contact me would be through PMs or occasionally e-mail.

3) What type of cr videos are you most familiar with (anime, drama, etc)?
I watch many videos of all types, on Crunchyroll - I adore both the Anime and Dramas on here, and I also quite enjoy viewing the many music videos users have uploaded ^^;
I normally do not watch any of the member videos, however an occasional, interesting AMV, or something of the sort, is quite enjoyable!

4) ForumMod only: what is your moderation style? How will you handle hostile cr users, etc?
-unneeded-

5) How much time do you spend on CR? How much time will you be able to dedicate to CR?
I'm on for about 4-6 hours, mostly everyday. Summer vacation is nearly here, hence I will have to help my mum with her business for most of July and some of August - I probably won't be able to dedicate more time to this site than the amount that I have already mentioned (but I hope that won't hinder my application, as I am quite efficient with time ^^;), during this time. After this ends however, I will most likely be free to come on this site for longer than usual!

6) Do you speak any languages other than English? If so, please indicate which.
I speak fluent English, and a lot of French - I can also speak some conversational Japanese (Romanji) and Hindi.

7) Where do you live (timezone-wise)? Do you live outside the US?
I live in Hungary at the moment [Edit: I thought I should add this - GMT +1 is the timezone I am in at the moment ^^;] Time is not really an issue, as I can usually come on at any time, day or night xD.
I will be going to western Canada for the 2007/2008 school year, in order to attend University, therefore the timezone I will most likely be in (starting at the end of August), is Mountain Standard Time.

Thank you very much, for taking me into consideration! [... although my application is so much later than most of the others =S]

Hi, I know I have pathetic CR points but that won't deter me
I'd like to apply because I feel that it would be a great learning experience; I'd get in touch more with the community through my responsibilities as a Mod and be able to learn more about Asian culture (I'm a freak when it comes to Asian culture )
Ok then, here is my application:

1) Which position(s) do you want?
I'd like to be a MediaMod because that way I learn more about the media I love! I love all the Videos that CR hosts

2) What makes you suitable for this position? Put your experiences and skills here (if any)
Well, first of all, I'd LOVE that lifetime star membership so that I can watch my favourite K-dramas, Music Videos and Anime in better quality!
I think I'd make a suitable MediaMod because I genuinely Love Eastern Asian culture and any chance i get to fill my brain with more information is very welcomed by me (I even keep a little notepad .txt file that lists all the Dramas/ Animes/ Mangas I've watched/ Read- It has information on the producer/ director and the main actors/ actresses)! My PC is full to the brim with J-music/ C-music/ Anime/ Dramas/ Movies - just shows my love for it all which I think is the main factor in a good Mod (gotta love what you're doing ^_^). I'm also a hard-core gamer so gaming vids are always welcomed!

Now, with regard to editing series summaries:
I've ALWAYS wanted to do this because I hate INCONSISTENCY; when one Movie states the producer/ Director and the lead starts and doesn't have a good summary but another has a brilliant summary but no information about the Producer/ Director and the lead stars! As a MediaMod I'd love to make all those Animes/ Dramas/ Movies/ Music Videos CONSISTENT! Also, with regard to the summaries themselves: I'd love to add a personal touch (not just copy and paste from Wikipedia) and have parts that will make a person want to watch it because I left a little unanswered question or something like that. I'd also leave information that will not give the plot away to people that have already watched it and want some information (This is how I'd like it done when I'm watching Vids). Lastly, I would keep the 'average user' in mind when writing/ editing summaries and would welcome advice/ requests (in a PM) from anyone so that my skill as a Mod would be forever expanding (after all, the Mod is FOR the 'average user' so I'm obliged to listen ^_^)

With regard to 'removing upload duplicates and copyrighted videos':
I'd take this very seriously because 1). upload duplicates CLUTTER and CONFUSE- none of which anyone likes and 2). Copyrighted videos would just cause hassle to CR and you guys shouldn't have to deal with it when you're employing someone (hopefully me :P) to delete them before any of the 'hassle' is received- also, we would NEVER want CR to be shutdown!

With regard to 'moving videos around':
I'd love to do this because arranging and organising has been my life since I can remember! Since I got my PC, it has always been neat and tidy :P. I believe that users should be able to access videos with no hassle as it would make CR an even greater site and more enjoyable for everyone!

With regard to 'approving new uploads':
As time goes by I'll become more and more familiar with the database of media that CR hosts. In the beginning, I'd DOUBLE CHECK all videos that would be approving for upload- this isn't all THAT enjoyable, although I'd gain more information and knowledge (which is power- I'm sure you've heard the saying) and it is ALL worth it because of the lifetime star membership- this would be my motivation :w00t:

I don't really have all that much experience. I used to organise all the game media in my friends' site. My other experience is the amount of music I have (I have very broad tastes and can range from anything like Bonnie Pink to MAXIMUM THE HORMONE to Angela Zhang to the Corner with Love OST~ So so so many :P).
I have seen LOADS of anime so there is no worries there.
And drama, my favourite being Korean, is a rapidly expanding area in my interests so there should be little worries there.
As for member videos: I like to take the time and see what other people with similar interests upload.

^...As you can see... I'm VERY excited about this opportunity to get in touch with the Eastern-Asian-Loving community!

3) What type of CR videos are you most familiar with (anime, drama,
I've sort of explained this in my excitement but...
I'm most familiar with Anime, Music Videos and Dramas/ Movies in that order. Although I love them all!

5) How much time do you spend on CR? How much time will you be able to dedicate to CR?
Well, as a regular user, I spend LOADS of time on CR (sometimes the whole day just watching Dramas :P). I've not took part in any of the community things so far (forum, uploading vids, etc) but I often share my opinions on videos that I have watched (in the comments section)~ I was starting today when i saw this amazing opportunity!
If I DID get the position I'd dedicate most of my free time to it (other free time will go towards watching my anime and Dramas :P). My Summer has just started and I don't have much to do ~ I could probably spend about 12 hours on CR Modding if need be!

6) Do you speak any languages other than English? If so, please indicate which.
Sadly I am only fluent in English, although I am learning Japanese and am currently a beginner-intermediate (I have loads of software and Japanese word Processors which i use)... which might be useful...[?]

7) Where do you live (timezone-wise)? Do you live outside the US?
I do indeed live outside the US. I live in Manchester, UK (GMT)

Thank you for reading and i eagerly await results ^_^

1) Which position(s) do you want?
Forum Moderator

2) What makes you suitable for this position? Put your experiences and skills here (if any):
I've been looking for another moderating job for a while now. I have experience moderating forums (admittedly not half as busy as CR) but have always followed stricter forum rules than CR. When I look at CR Forums (daily) I almost crave the opportunity to do some moderating which is why I generally do not post at all. In real life I've always been the "moderator" in my social groups, hehe. Top marks in Literature essays and a future almost destined to write novels I consider myself an information nazi and will always do my best to improve the priceless feature that CR offers. I don't post a lot on CR but I read the anime forum daily (mostly whatever isn't a list thread) as well as a couple of the other forums.

3) What type of cr videos are you most familiar with (anime, drama, etc)?:
Anime

4) ForumMod only: what is your moderation style? How will you handle hostile cr users, etc?:
I am being modest when I say that I'm always reasonable. I follow my own strict moderating guidelines but I'm a grammar Nazi and am almost obsessive compulsive when it comes to neatness. I usually join the forums which have the harshest moderators and I'm only active at one other forum, gladly looking forward to making CR my new home. Hostile CR Users and what else comes with the job won't be tolerated, whether it's a to-the-point PM or a harsh but fair ban. I will do the job as well as the job can be done.
I think I should also add that at my old moderating job I banned people mercilessly for discrimination, hostile behaviour and back-seat moderating. In my books cheap personal attacks is what I find absolutely intolerable. I'm patient when it comes to newbies not reading rules and will gladly refer them to the rules but over the line sarcasm and intentional hostility will be erased instantly.
Most of all I love CR. I have had unforgettable debates on a couple of other anime forums about CR and I have always supported the website. I will do what I can do lift the reputation of CR users by moderating the forums. I am a vehement moderator of spam as well, which I think infects CR to the bone. Obviously the rules allow lists and whatnot and that can be tolerated but outright spam won't be given a second glance with me. I have made attempts to contact spammers on videos and chain letter "subscribers" but of course I was powerless without moderating abilities.
Lastly, of course locking threads will be done carefully and correctly. I've seen moderators take their powers too far and I'm vehemently against arrogance in admin.

5) How much time do you spend on CR? How much time will you be able to dedicate to CR?
I can spend an hour daily on CR, on weekends it could vary from 1 to 3 hours at different intervals in the day. Currently I don't post much at all on CR and only when something needs to be said. I'm eager to dedicate more time here.

6) Do you speak any languages other than English?
Japanese. Admittedly my Japanese is not so good, but since I live in Japan and will be for the next year it will only improve.

7) Where do you live (timezone-wise)? Do you live outside the US? Japan, GMT:08

1) Which position(s) do you want?
forum moderator

2) What makes you suitable for this position? Put your experiences and skills here (if any)
I'm frequently on CR and I used to be a forum mod for other sites

3) What type of cr videos are you most familiar with (anime, drama, etc)?
I'm mostly in the anime music and movies section

4) ForumMod only: what is your moderation style? How will you handle hostile cr users, etc?
I'm a kind but also serious type of mod
I'd warn the user if they're being a little bad
I'd only block someone if they're really vulgar or a disturbance to other users
ex:
spamming
chain letters
arguing with other users and causing problems [being a disturbance]
frequently posting pornographic images and saying dirty things

5) How much time do you spend on CR? How much time will you be able to dedicate to CR?
I'm on this site a lot from turning my computer on to turning it off
I'm not a busy person so i'm available when you need me and im willing to make sure CR's users are good people and I'm in the forums a lot so I'd be able to keep that area in good shape by removing dead topics and stuff like that

6) Do you speak any languages other than English? If so, please indicate which.
I speak a little bit of japanese, but not that great at it though so just mainly english

7) Where do you live (timezone-wise)? Do you live outside the US?
California Pacific Timezone

hope to hear from you soon
