Is attack on Titan Another Sword Art Online (sucking in all types of Anime recognition for the season)

I personally think Gargantia is getting more attention then AoT. They're both a lot different but are pretty good.

SAO was hyped? I just remember a lot of people complaining about it.

More like it was the fault of all the other summer 2012 titles for being pretty bland overall (I thought; preferences will differ). And that gave SAO a fanbase going into the fall. But People will watch what they want, given the time and resources they have available; Attack on Titan being hyped doesn't stop them from watching anything else.

In the beginning (around the first two episodes and before it even aired) it was hyped. Then everyone joined the bandwagon of "it sucks".

Though, I have reason to believe you are being sarcastic...

I actually don't like that many "mainstream" shows to be honest. I don't like horror and I watched Another because A.) Noizi Itou designs B.) It was animated by PA Works. Attack on Titan has nothing that I like so I don't watch it.

Gargantia is written by one of the top writers in Japan(Gen Urobuchi) and basically the same studio as AoT(Wit is a subsidary of Production IG) and I like how the darkness in it is all too human rather than some supernatural force. I also prefer hopeful works to "hopeless struggle" works.

HenNeko and Nyarko-san are also very funny comedies and I love Japanese comedies.

What does Gargantia being written by Gen Urobuchi have anything to do with it? No offense or anything, just curious.

Also, judging by your preference I'm guessing shows like Texhnolyze and Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom aren't you cup of tea?

Ever since Madoka and Fate/Zero, I have been interested in Urobuchi's works. I've also heard that Saya no Uta is a good VN.

Since I use Crunchyroll for streaming and Funimation is a crap site(they are a good home video licensor though), I'd have to blind buy those works. I will at some point try Haibane Renmei because it's ABe(whom I have heard it a great writer) and since Texhnolyze is also ABe I might check it out at some point. But yeah, shows like that are usually not my cup of tea.

To get an idea of what my tastes are, my favorite shows form 2012 are Bodacious Space Pirates, AKB 0048, Blast of Tempest, Girls und Panzer, Jinrui was Suitai Shimashita(dark comedy at its best), Tari Tari and Little Busters! And of course Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos.

Not intentionally; but it's probably my fault for not really paying attention to forums or reviews and trying everything I could find to see if I liked it or not. I've been a CR member for awhile but only started posting recently.

Lmao Guys. the comparison I am trying to make between SAO and AOT is that they get Hyped up to the point that other Good Animes or titles that are on or are close to the same level get pushed to the Waist Side.

Crunchyroll is not the only site that shows anime. This is probably one of the main sites I see talk about Gargant as much as AOT.

I'm just wondering if this is going to be a trend.. A really amazing anime blocks out the sun for the other amazing animes.....that season.

Yeah, except one thing.

AoT is NOT getting hyped up to the point other good shows are getting brushed aside and covered up by the hype AoT gets.
Crunchy roll is the only LEGAL site (for the most part) that stays as up to date as possible with current shows as they can.

Attack on Titan basically shat on all anime this season,
excluding Hataraku Maouo-sama, so I don't really care about its popularity.

It's at least more well-deserved than Sword Trash Online's popularity.

Oh cool. Yeah, Funimation site is a mess. I hope they get around to fixing it. I like your tastes by the way. As for mine, I try everything. Oh yeah, fun fact if you didn't know, but Gen Urobuchi was also one of the writers for the VN of Phantom: Requiem of the Phantom (I believe the head writer) and he also worked on the anime adaptation, which is bittersweet. Haibane Renmei and Texhnolyze are both bittersweet shows as well. Well, Texhnolyze leaves you devoid of emotion by the end of it.

I might be overestimating the average anime viewer, but I think you're putting the cart in front of the horse. As in all the people talking about Attack on Titan are watching whatever they want, and then talking a lot about what interests them the most. Attack on Titan just happens to be a series with a LOT going on that people can talk about.

While Gargantia is more like "new episode happened; it was fun; moving on with life."

Doesn't mean people aren't watching and enjoying it, they'd just rather spend time talking about something else.

Like how crackers Valvrave is turning out to be.

CRAP thanks for reminding me about Hataraku Maouo-sama! I started watching it and was fucking on the floor the whole time, then somehow forgot about it (as funimation is streaming it, not CR) bookmarked it this time.

That is an excellent assessment of the situation.

In my case, AOT is the only anime in the spring season I'm watching.
(Chihayafuru 2 started in the Winter season).
BUT I haven't started on some, which I've heard great stuff about.

You do realize the mods moved the same exact thread to the Attack on Titan forum?

LOL. I actually thought this was that same thread that I've been seeing, and didn't actually click into until just now.

I wish CR had a way to make it more clear what shows have active forums of their own, and what's fair game for the general Anime Forum.

There will always be haters, one of the truest phrases hand-crafted by the internet itself is- "Haters gonna hate"

Therefore you should not fret about the flack people are going to spew because some of us know, if they haven't watched the anime they hate then their hate means nothing.

And even if they have watched the anime they hate yet provide no groundbreaking reasoning behind their hater jibber-jabber then they're only upset because they have to read subtitles.

Comment sections on all the animes here are self-moderated by the outweighing viewers who enjoy what they watch every episode of so all 'hater' comments won't show up here unless you actively look for them or bury your head into one-sided discussion.

--Read this next sentence in the voice of 'Mufasa' from The Lion King--
Remember Zesire, enjoying a new anime doesn't mean you go looking for hater commentary.
