It really deserves all it's hype, because it's such an intense anime. Have you've seen episode 5? O.O
I think AOT is WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY better than SAO. There's something in the main character of AOT that would kick Kirito's ass XD

Well, I dropped SAO on episode 3, really in its third week. That one was boring for me.
I have been following the SnK manga for about a year now and when they announced the anime I felt my dream came true... but too soon.
Still, for me they are in opposite extremes. SAO is horrible and SnK my dream come true.

SAO - ridiculous, AOT - sublime (so far*)

"The sublime and the ridiculous are often so nearly related, that it is difficult to class them separately. One step above the sublime, makes the ridiculous; and one step above the ridiculous, makes the sublime again"

Meh, i can see why AOT is getting all the hype its betting because.. well, when was the last time we even SAW an anime like this? a very serious anime with dark tones, a very unique art style, an intriguing, and standout premise, is not afraid to pull punches or limit what we may see on screen, and no fan service. been quite a while. has a very pre-2007 moe boom feel to it.

I must live in a completely different universe to you. I thought all of Urobuchi's works until Susei fitted that bill. And quite a few other anime of recent years as well.

It does feel pre-Kon though, reminds me a lot of Gantz and Claymore.

Hmm, yes, perhaps you're right, now that i look back, i can say there have been a few in recent years.

perhaps its not so much the tone, but more of how much more uncommon works and settings such as AOT have been over the last few years.

i remember looking over the Spring chart many months ago, scanning over what seemed like a rather sizeable amount of sequels or slice of life/ romantic comedies, which i don't mind, they aren't my prefered cup of tea, but i have no animosity towards them, some looked interesting enough (Snafu,Stony Cat) and there had been a few other titles that looked intriguing (Gargantia, RDG, Karneval, Valvrave) or some which, had some very odd premises (Crime Edge,Devil is a Part Timer, Aku no hana,) but their odd premises did warranted a quick look.

But i still felt the season was lacking just a little bit of a wow factor.. until i saw the entry for AOT, needless to say, it stood out so easily from everything that was on that list, it wasn't quirky like Part timer, it wasn't odd or weird like Crime Edge, or Karneval, it didn't even have anything to do with highschool OR Mecha's

It just, jumped off the page, and looked so much more different from everything else that was airing (then again ,when was the last time we got a show about giant creepy humanoid creatures and humans who jump and fly around on portable zip lines?).

It's definitely an engaging title (oh dear lord dat episode 5), but i gotta say, even beyond AOT, i'm actually very impressed with the spring season so far, the season as a whole, grand epics , quirkiness, standard fare alike, is looking quite impressive.

Didn't the AOT manga suck though? I read up to four volumes, and I didn't get a "this would be awesome if animated" vibe. What is different about the anime that everyone is raving over it? I honestly can't get it.

SAO was awesome till the 15 episode mark or so, AOT if it follows the manga will not have a dip in quality.

deja vu: i feel like i've posted on this thread before

my tastes are pretty broad when it comes to anime and i'm not subjected to other's opinions when watching anime

but i'm pretty sure it may cause some other-wise 'good' animes to go unnoticed for those who don't watch anime often

Nope, chromie created it first.

Similar thread and therefore, locked.
