Now I could go on a very long rant for why the public views it as very unsavory but I want to hear what you have to say! Now just to leave this, I think this video might explain why people frown upon anime because of Weaboose like this >.> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhHL96P_K4Y
I am a normal guy, I enjoy anime, I don't go around parading it and I am cool with it. Anyways Cheers.
Probably one more thing is just being uneducated on the kind of culture around it.

Draw # symbol, apply to forehead.

That video was like dragging fingernails across a chalkboard.

And such a negative representation of anime too.

I know, and I don't doubt it. It was painful to watch.

Most people I know who dislike anime or have a negative view on it do so simply because they see it as just regular cartoons and nothing more. They also don't understand why someone would want to watch a show in a different language when there are plenty of cartoons in english to watch. They don't know enough about any of it to have even heard the term weeaboo before for it to have an impact on their views.

One view I heard was that, in America, manga/anime has taken away the interest in comics.

But I think generally it's just seen as a cartoon thing that people kinda frown upon.

I often hear that actually, that people only have to say is that "It's just a Cartoon". Now these aren't the kind of people that insult you on it, just don't fully understand why we watch it.

those types of people aren't open-minded and actually years ago my first anime was pokemon, but back then I thought of it as a cartoon.

Yeah I agree with most of what you guys have said. Most just see it as a cartoon. Idk, it bugs me because these are the same people who have never watched anything good. Maybe if they got to see that anime has so much more personality and just feels more real (even when the story can get really weird) than your average american cartoon. To me, cartoons are meant to entertain me, anime is meant to tell me a story and really make a connection.

You can always make subtle references in regards to that. Take for examples The Fast and The Furious. Both The Fast and The Furious and Initial D borrowed from one another in regards to the CG sequences and scenes. Showing the influence of artistic expression across countries.

I respectfully disagree... Initial D was out way before any Fast and The Furious stuff.

Well, with my friends it's a facepalm. They always say "I bet you watch fucking Hentai LOLOLOLOLOL" in unison. I like these guys but these are the same typical people who play CoD and have watched like only Pokemon, Bleach, and Dragon Ball Z. What's funny is that I called them out on it but it's like their brains are warped -.- . I don't know, maybe my friends are just dumbasses (but I still love em) , but the main point I think, is that people think about Hentai when they hear about "Anime".

People look down on people who watch anime because they see them as "different." This also applies to bronies, furries, nerds, geeks, punks, freethinkers, parkour practitioners, atheists, pastafarians, vegans, skaters, adrenaline dependents, wiccans, tattoo enthusiasts, oddities collectors, cannabis smokers and other such people who might well be good people, but because of their lack of conformity, common misunderstandings, and inability of the general public or the persons in question to find common grounds, are thought of by most people as immoral or uncivilized.

People have always grouped themselves according to similarities they find in each other. It has aided our survival, enabled us to build big things that no single person could make on one's own, but has also caused wars, genocides, unending cycles of hatred and revenge and other great evils.

I think that this is something people just have to accept. I, for one, like to think that I'm part of this great family called humanity. I think that sooner or later my brothers and sisters will realize that we're not so different and we can work together and do things that are truly great. But, maybe that's just wishful thinking.

As for that video... I think it just a bloody troll!

Its frowned upon because its drawn, people see it as if you were watching spongebob in chinese. It really has nothing to do with weeaboos, pretty sure your average person wouldn't know what that is.

Well alot of people do associate hentai with anime because come on, Anime can be pretty weird sometimes but hentai is it's own genre but since both are animated people don't see a difference between them. And often come up with remarks like that or "They aren't even real tits!" lol I think people need to be more culturally diverse
