the above can be applied to the more known stuff like Naruto, most anime i watch are masterpieces and the only thing I find flawed is the animation itself, which can be a turn off to others.

Also, I heard theres only 7 completely original stories have ever told since the beginning of time with minor alterations, so of course anime stories are the same, like movies, books, ect.

That video was pretty gay. I had to exit it lol.
About to years ago that is kind of what I thought the people who watched anime were. Well a good bit less than that actually.
Until I was bored enough to watch Bleach one summer. Down hill from there.

Probably because of hentai, weeaboos, and the fact that they're "cartoons" (which is kinda true, but anime in general is a lot more mature than your average cartoon).

Lol that video was funny... I think mainly because of the animation people think it to be ordinary cartoon for 'children'

Hmm is it really frowned upon though?

There was a famous troll here and elsewhere who tried to tell everyone that westerners who cosplayed were racist. He put up half a dozen of videos about it on youtube. Does that make his opinion true or even widespread?

Personally I've never had a problem with people's opinions about anime. Some of them I have to explain the term as "imported Japanese cartoons" but that usually evokes curiosity rather than condemnation. And no, 'cartoon' is not an insult to anime and No it doesn't mean it's for children. At least not in the circles I move in.

My neice and nephew are huge anime fans. So is my 50 something sister (entirely my fault I corrupted them all) My flatmate just cannot get into anime and doesn't understand why I like it. but doesn't fault me for the practice. My Brother doesn't get it either. but he and my nephew... let's just say in sports one's a Habs fan the other roots for Toronto.

edit.
Didn't watch the video but from the other responses I can imagine some stupidity from an opinionated child who thinks their view of the world should be everybody's, Ignore him and carry on.

Because sex sells. All types of media has taken advantage of this factor, but Japan has ran it into the ground in anime/manga. So a lot of people have the outlook that all anime is overly sexualised. Therefore build a close minded opinion on anime and it's fanbase as being perverted. But rather than actually giving it a chance and seeing that not all anime is a overly sexualised, society just joins the hivemind and forms a mob.

At least, that is what I have noticed.

I have noticed, as the years have passed, that most of the hatred for anime / manga fans comes from ... other anime / manga fans, rather than from people with no knowledge of the hobby. Remember where that word weeaboo was "invented"?

What society are you talking about? Like I said, Anime is ... maybe not mainstream. It's certainly not the 'walking dead' but has more recognition and respect than say... 'twilight fans' get.

Based on my experience of people I've met that expressed their dislike for anime, these are the reasons they gave

1) It's like a cartoon. (They like reality TV shows)
2) They don't like idea of watching something in a different language with subtitles (Japanese dubbed with english subtitles)
3) It's childish

Take note here that this is based on their first impression of anime. They've barely spent any time watching it. If more people actually took the time and gave it a chance, I think they would like it a lot more.

Pretty much this, except 2. In New York people love foreign films because they think it makes them "cultured." Moving on...I think it's primarily the fact that it's a cartoon/something animated. People assume immaturity and childishness to anything animated and thus unproductive.

It's only a matter of time until they accept it though. My mom got into DBZ back in the 90's when I was younger and her favorite character was Piccolo. Cool and lame at the same time, right? Like with Avatar The Last Airbender (Not true anime but good attempt) there is a slow push for getting it accepted.

I used to know people who, up until the "Smart Phone Revolution", never even touched a video game. But now everyone is pretty much a gamer. Same thing will happen for anime. Someday.

Well, I think the reason is WWII. During this time, many things Japanese related, at this time mostly manga, were stigmatized. Of course the national feeling of hatred for Japan is mostly gone now, but the negative conotations associated with Anime and Manga simply because they're Japanese are still there.
