3) It's childish

Take note here that this is based on their first impression of anime. They've barely spent any time watching it. If more people actually took the time and gave it a chance, I think they would like it a lot more.

I've found that many anime's are much more profound and worthwhile than most reality TV shows

Anime is art. It's subjective, but most people aren't versed enough to know what it really is and the culture around it. But it is what it is... I don't care for poetry, and some people love that shit...

Well for starters that video...It was too painful to watch longer than a minute...My eyes and ears hurts x-x

Anyways, what Ive noticed is that in addition to anime being viewed as a cartoon to most outside eyes, as a whole the population that watches tv isnt looking for a show with a great plot, awesome back story, great fight scenes, etc.

Typically it isnt very challenging to engage the average tv viewer in some sort of mindless show about drinking or fighting or...well basically the vast majority of MTV.

I mean im not trying to criticize other television shows and networks, I just wanted to make my point in saying that most people watch poorly written stories with sometimes awful acting and drama or comedy that is painfully stretched out across multiple seasons or so to gain viewers and money. That being said, the same people who are satisfied with that wont go seeking an amazing story that may result in finding themselves watching shows for multiple hours a week and truly enjoying themselves.

Its for that same reason that a lot of people (That really get on my nerves..) see anime and have a reaction similar to, "LOLOLOL looks its Hentai! Anyways, Im gonna stop looking at that crap and go watch some Jersey Shore."

Personally I think its their loss, I dont flaunt my love for anime in public however I do have some friends that enjoy it as much as I do. I have found that people who enjoy anime even if its only one or two shows are more open minded and benefit from it.

Anyways thats my rant xD, No one has to like anime or even give it a shot. But the random rude remarks are what get me x-x

people who think it's weird and just ignore it all together, i just don't pay attention to their opinion as long as they're good people. Good people usually don't bitch about things in front of others who they know enjoy what they dislike. i'm totally fine to disagree, and often find the other opinion interesting and informative.

i think more of our attention should be centered around the fact that there is SO much kaka to filter out when watching anime. primarily the physical oversexualization of male/female characters (not saying characters shouldn't have a sexuality) in times it's not appropriate, especially when the physically oversexualized character somehow becomes less of interesting character as a result.

i am not referring to series in which the viewer knows beforehand that it's some ecchi/yaoi series, but series that tend to use the sexuality as a blatant, "look at me!" when the story was already enough to pull you in. (although this problem is just prevalent in the geek world in general, though. runs rampant in american comics and american video games as well. for example as awesome as mass effects was, there were some plot choices that made people go, "wtf?")

I'm not going to bother to watch the video. It's my opinion that people see anime as nothing more than cartoons sold in it's own ignored corner of the dvd section of any store. Maybe it's some kind of social evolution where everything animated is seen as immature and dropped. I don't fully understand that kind of thinking. I like what I like and I get into it without any thought into what others see it as. I know everyone here watches anime, and I am preaching to the choir, but I don't get where "they" think it's something not worth watching because it's a cartoon. I may watch anime, but damn it I know that some of the crap they watch is worse than anything I've ever heard of. I don't watch reality TV, soap operas or anything others may consider popular in North America. Am I different? Damn right I am, but I'm comfortable with myself.

Agreed, in my experience it has been mainly because it is a cartoon. Some people like only things with real people. And although they may admit that an episode of anime is good they will never really invest themselves in an anime. My brother is a perfect example of that. He watched an episode of Marvel anime X-men and liked it. But he wouldn't watch the whole series. He's way into sports. The ESPN theme was his ringtone or something at one point. That being said, I think people have a right not to like anime or to not be like us. Everyone has their thing. Defend what you watch if necessary and let other people like or dislike what they want.

That video was too funny! What a gender-neutral person. I loved the part where s/he tried to eat with a chopstick in each hand. It was like a slow-motion train wreck, only with raw veggies and ranch dip.

Though I remember from years back when my dad didn't excatly understand why I got into anime, so I showed him Hellsing Ultimate. He thought it was pretty cool.

Dean gets it.

Anyways. To be honest, I used to have trouble with people bullying me for it in middle school but when High school came a lot of people were more open with it. I think It all depends on the person. If you're some weaboo then people will see it negitively but if you like and watch it but are pretty normal in social situations then people don't care. I can say this because I've seen it. A lot of the "social outcasts" loved anime and were weaboo-ish. Now I was friends with a lot of them but I could see the difference of the way our peers acted towards me and them.

Though some of my band friends would joke around with me and say I watch hentai when in reality, I could never watch that kind of stuff. A lot of people don't understand that Hentai is anime but anime is not hentai. I know anime is not for everyone but a lot of people don't ever give it a chance. Usually if I wanted someone to watch anime, I would start them with a Miyazaki movie because it's just a movie and most people love his movies.

As a child I thought pokemon, Sailor Moon and Digimon where all cartoons because I didn't even know better. I think most negative thoughts come from either A) Weaboos Thinking it's just a cartoon or C) Thinking it's all hentai
