What is the original Episode 15 of Mobile Suit Gundam about? Does anyone know where I can see a copy subbed?

I saw it online once, like I did with the rest of MSG. Actually, I watched up to Cosmic Glow when I realized that I had the opportunity to watch Kukuruz Doan's Island. It's a nice episode, granted it's filler. What happens is that Amuro goes out patrolling in the Core Fighter and finds an island where a few war orphans and a Zeon soldier live. The story is about Doan, who realized that he killed these kids parents in his Zaku, and is now their guardian.

Lol, that episode? I thought Doan's Island was like episode 6 or something.

Sounds like a nice ep, so nothing important plot-wise happens in this ep?

Not really >_> like he said, it's filler, and it's pretty random like it's out of place.

Yeah. What I found even funnier was how Bandai decided to take it to the next level in GGen Advance and give Doan and his Zaku II a Super Mode. Doan FTW!

Even if it didn't really advance the main plot, Doan's Island showed a more human side to the Zeonic soldier, in this case, Doan. Also considering what Tomino was trying to accomplish at the time of this series, it would've enhanced that message too. Besides, it's kinda interesting to see how Amuro learns about Doan's story and how he helps him out of his situation at the end of the episode, though in a way I didn't expect at first.

It also shows the viciousness of Zeon at the same time, and while you may interpret that as a contrast between the Doan and the rest of Zeon, Doan was a Zeon soldier too.

That's a good point there. As much as Doan was trying to protect those orphaned kids, it was his constant need to fight that was attracting the rest of Zeon anyway, and as I mentioned before, Amuro figured that out. In the end, I really don't think this episode should've been dropped, and those who have watched this episode will likely know why.

My reason brings up the point why it was dropped. It's a bit of hypocrisy as a Zeon soldier is good while the others are vile? That's not defining much. BUT, what it does do, is make the Zeon forces appear to be even crueler than original portrayed. Think about it, the Gihren himself was said to be like Hitler in the novel even, but his father Degwan wasn't all that bad. So Zeon doesn't take the REAL BADGUY role until the near end of the series at which point it's still mostly just Gihren being a total bastard. Gundam is a bit realistic in the sense that there is no good guy bad guy, but rather the protagonistic side and antagonistic side, which isn't so much good guy bad guy, but the characters you follow and who oppose them, also it makes more sense since it's war but randomly killing citizens, kids no less for no real reason, that's just plain labeling Zeon as "evil"

Now that you mention it, this episode did portray Zeon a tad more negative than usual since Doan mentions that even though he was the one responsible for accidentally killing the parents of those kids, he also brings up how his superiors ordered him to kill the children too--an order he obviously disobeyed. Methinks this episode would actually make for effective Earth Federation propaganda.
