How do you feel about your animes being censored? I for one hate it with a burning passion. Watching things like Mirai Nikki on Hulu, and Another and HunterxHunter on here; it really takes away the tone from an anime. If somebody gets brutally stabbed or beaten or limps go flying and all I see is a disgusting mosaic or the ENTIRE SCREEN IS BLACK it gets me rather irritated and completely takes away from the shock and oh my god factor

So what are your thoughts on censorship? Good?Bad? Does it take away the desired tone of some anime?

It helps them appeal to a wider audience while also incentivizing BD sales.

I might not like it, but I think it's one of those necessary evils that helps them not go broke.

4Kids style. That I really disdain.

Though, I don't mind the for TV releases kind of censorship. I have learn to accept it because that they are going to release for the price that I paid for. Unless of course I spend dick waving money on BDs and get the same thing, that then and there is when I mind. But yeah. I don't mind.

Just for funzors about censorship. "LAWL"

I hate it. I'm the kind of person who likes to watch things as closely to their original intention as possible. I'm less picky about dubs, but if there is one thing I cannot stand, it is changing the visual aspects. If someone were to release something without an uncut version, I wouldn't buy it. I'll forgive crunchy roll since they really aren't that expensive, but if someone wants me to pay $50+ for a butchered show, they have another thing coming. If it is on air though it doesn't really bother me. I can understand the logic behind censoring things on TV.

censorship is evil. I prefer non but some shows do it in a way that doesn't bother me. When they add fog or smoke or whatnot its okay. when there is a giant bar that covers half my screen i lose my mind. pixilating is just as bad and annoying as the giant black bars.

Censorship is art in some sense. For one, you can drastically change the original message into something totally new.

This isn't quite censorship but I hope it will get my point across. Through the use of modern day magic and fine body art, we've made this beast into a beauty.

It helps them make more money, which the anime companies desperately need. I am fine with it as long as it's fixed on the DVD/Blu ray release.

If you're talking about TV broadcast versions being censored, I don't have a problem with it, it can encourage the BD/DVD sales which are especially important for late night anime. In addition censorship can be done on purpose to add to a scene or heighten the effect of the scene. For example take many gag comedy series where mosaics can be used for something that's supposed to be disgusting or unidentifiable/eldritch horror. Chances are whatever is underneath the mosaic isn't nearly as bad as it appears to be when it's mosaiced and your imagination can take over.

Likewise some censorship for nudity or similar things in tv broadcasts can be so well done it takes on a sort of life of its own. Take the little guy holding the " 見せられないよ!" sign from Hayate no Gotoku, just do a google image search of that phrase and you'll see tons of parodies of it, including in other anime, and you'll also see how it in effect, works in helping get "shit past the radar" so to speak by making a scene seem more perverted, bloody, grotesque or likewise when used in the right contexts.

I hate censorship but it is done for TV broadcasts. Taking the censorship off for the Blurays is a bonus. AT-X pay channel shows versions without censorship usually. It is too bad that Crunchy generally gets the censored TV versions for simulcasts, sometimes they get the real version for library titles.

That's weird. I recently watched Another on here, and there was actually a lot of gore, stabbing, whatever. I wonder what they censored. Can someone tell me a couple parts they censored please? I know they censor shows, but I guess if I don't even know it's there I don't mind.

I do mind however, when it's painfully obvious like in Blood-C where there's this giant sharp bright light on everything. Kind of annoying. I'm kind of glad that show has a censored version though. It made me absolutely sick at some parts.

*shrugs*

Censorship only bothered me back when watching things on Cartoon Network (or other channels) was one of the only ways to see anime.

yes, the censorship is quite annoying, I remember people on other forum websites telling me to do the illegal thing and download the AT X versions since they are uncensored, but I always countered and said "well there would be no point to have a sub for cr, wouldn't it?"

Who cares? For £5 a month(or free f you don't go premium.)you get an incredible amount of content for the money, so I do not really care if I
get censorship on some things as a trade off.

Plus if I really like a show then I will eventually get the Blu-Ray anyway.
