Initially it seems quite sensible to not allow username changes, after all it feels wrong to allow it as a username is used to identify a user, however allow me to present three arguments in favour of it:

- Technically there is no reason whatsoever not to do it. I am a full time developer and have seen a huge number of applications and even the oldest ones never ever used a username as a named identifier, so simply changing the username is not technically hard to do or troublesome.
- It supposedly causes mass confusion, which seems sensible, but in real life that's not the case. I have seen a few sites which implement the possibility, the most famous probably being facebook (where the theoretical confusion is at its absolute maximum maximum), and although it raises a few eyebrows, it stabalizes within a day for any specific friend group. On less social sites like crunchyroll it probably won't even raise these eyebrows. Of course it becomes more of an issue if somebody changes his username daily, but it's easy enough to add a half a year timeout to the functionality.
- On sites without any hard to transfer data associated with an account it's fine to just say "If you really want a new User Name, you would need to delete your current account and create a new one." and on first glance it seems reasonable for crunchyroll to say this, however by implementing features like cr points, comments, achievements and memberships, all non-transferable, this arguments becomes entirely void and invalid.

I understand why from an uninitiated point of view it might seem like a bad feature to add, however both real life and theory do not support this notion. Additionally it's very telling that it's the first mentioned question as far as account help goes (out of 25 questions).

Oh well, tried to keep this short, if there are any questions I could both share more sites which without trouble have added this feature and I can also further support how easy this technically is, however it seems that this should be clear enough.

I will support this only if I can have my username changed to one currently already taken. My argument is that it might be my account...and if that doesn't work my argument is that the account doesn't look like it's being used. >=(.....
.....
........Ok fine I support this because my username sucks. At the time I didn't realize it would be my forum name as well and I also didn't plan on participating on the forums. v.v

could do what Microsoft do with pay like $5 or so to change it to stop sever changes so much in the log files
or offer a free name change to pre members like DA

As far as I am concerned they make it a premium feature only (like deviantart), limit it based on time (like tweakers.net) or limit the number of times (I think facebook does it), but the feature in and of itself would be really useful.

I wish more sites allowed users to change their user names, or simply make the user name seperate from the name that appears on profiles/forums. I know a few sites that do this, some you can even change the profile/forum name.
