What exactly makes someone a weeaboo?
Posted 5/13/13
If anyone got the wrong idea I personally don't have anything against them and I wouldn't ever call anyone that. Especially since I've been referred to as one even though that girl got it wrong completely. I was just curious about what might make non-anime fans refer to someone as one. They're the ones who always seem to be using it.

Basically someone who disregards where they come from and only thinks japan is about anime/manga and tbh i dont see anything wrong with using Japanese words mixed in with English. People do it with tons of other languages and people form around the world do it with English.

I rarely ever hear that term outside of like youtube trolls. Although I consider it as just being someone who wants to make it obvious to the world that they are a fan of anime and Japanese culture. I must say I am a huge fan of the former, not much of the current culture of Japan though. I learned Japanese and sometimes check out Japanese channels, let me just say, American trolls are vulgar, but their level of vulgarity and perversion does not go anywhere near that of Japanese trolls. I consider myself a pervert, and they even scare me.

I dont mind these weeaboo personalities, I find them amusing. I guess I am used to listening to people talk some serious spanglish so like mixing a few Japanese words with English is like meh..

I'm no anime nerd/otaku. I just enjoy what I like. But people are more obsessed than others (anime otaku). For example, people saying "dubs suck, subs are better". I get really annoyed with those comments. I understand in most cases why people call others weeaboos. The example i gave is just ONE of the many that are made by people in public or online. But that one i gave is a famous one. You have idiots going on dub sites like FUNimations youtube with their dubbed anime videos and making comments that dubs suck and subs are better. I never call someone a weeaboo because it just sounds dumb. But if someone uses it like from that example starting problems then they can proceed and call them a weeaboo. Like how are they not anyway when they are showing that they are lol.

I'm a guy that prefers the original Japanese dubs. But I still like English dubs too. There's Japanese dubs that I prefer over the English dubs and English dubs over the Japanese dubs. There's many good dubs out there. Most cases its the people who insult dubs that start problems and get called weeaboo's. I see it all the time online. And people trying to add Japanese words into their English sentences. Honestly I think that is lame. Especially when you can't speak the language. You either speak it and write it in its language or you don't at all. How are people supposed to know what the hell you are talking about if you're speaking a language that many people won't understand and that you don't even know yourself except for a few words lol. I think people have a right to call others a weeaboo in an argument. Japanese wannabe. IF they are the ones who started the problem.

The only problem i have with "weeaboo" is that it seems like now, from your story, if you like anime you are automatically considered a "weeaboo" by the rest of society. A term invented as a negative description/slur of someone.

In reference to the youtube video above. I can attest that there is racism in Japan and Korea, sometimes bitter racism, especially online. If you have ever played a Korean MMO on a Korean server, you will likely have experienced this at least a few times. I've had it directed at me before. BUT, racism like that is not limited solely to Asia. Every country no matter how "fair" it's society and it's people will have those individuals that are incredibly racist to anyone that doesn't look and/or act like them. This is the world we live in.
