The Nanoha series
Strawberry Panic
Yuru Yuri
Lucky Star
A Certain Scientific Railgun (Magical Index, I'm cool with)

So is it the yuri or undertones thereof or the overwhelmingly female casts of these shows that turn you off these shows?

Pretty much all the popular anime I don't watch. Some shows like DBZ and Naruto with hundreds of shows get annoying long. The only anime I watched with over 100 episodes was Yu Gi Oh. Other than that, most of my shows are either 13 episodes or 26. Occasionally, they will get longer, but not often. I think Nana was something like 40+ episodes. That show was exceptionally good though so I stuck with it.

Shows like DBZ where it take like 4 episodes to power up and then the fight lasts all of two minutes are annoying as heck.

FiestyTurtle Honestly, it's ridiculous how people are treating this anime. People are treating this anime like it's god tier... It looks nice and it nice to watch for excitement but it could be better. This is just a silly shonen when it could easily be much better as a mature seinen.

What does it being Shounen have anything to do with it? All that means is the demographic it's put in (the publisher, main audience, etc.), it has nothing to do with the maturity level of the work.

A better example is Gunslinger Girl - given its mature nature people believe it to be seinen (with themes such as rape, terrorism, counter terrorism, drugs, child trafficking, excessive violence, corruption, political aspects, etc.) but it's in fact a shounen. Does that mean it's for kids, or easy for a younger demographic (12-18) to understand? No, it's just that because of the publisher it's viewed as a shounen title (It was serialized in the Dengeki Daioh magazine). It has nothing to do with maturity of the work (although, it may have some influence).

As a reverse example - Minami-ke, would you consider that a seinen based on its content? Probably not.

Basically, "shounen" and "seinen" labels are primarily based off what magazine the said work in question is serialized in.

Its not the fact that these shows have large female casts. I don't mind that at all. But some of these shows constant use of "subtext" and "psycho lesbians". Yes its the yuri undertones, but also these shows are well...overrated.

Attack on Titan is nothing like a Shonen...this doesn't even need defending.

People are treating it like "god tier" right now because it's probably the most impactful anime this season. You're making your own assumptions by thinking people think it's the greatest anime of all time. In the current season there is no arguing that Attack on Titan is getting the most attention by not just viewers but the media overall. It's not getting that attention for the same reasons Naruto or Bleach does. It's getting that attention because it's provocative in nature compared to everything else we're so used to. It's different, it's tragic, it's exciting, and it's daring to be great, you can't just ignore that kind of intensity and drive in a show.

You can just stick your fingers in your eyes and not watch it all you want, but to say the show is "silly" is just trying to be a hipster at best because the vast majority of people watching the show are drowning you out without even a glance.

All this being said I have an addition to my earlier post that was on topic...

I just don't understand how people like Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood over the 2003 anime (unless they are manga purists, then obviously I get it). Objectively (let's say the manga didn't exist), the first series had so much more heart to it. It was way more emotional, and the themes were done to such a wonderful degree (and the english dub cast did an amazing job, and I hate dubs). I think they decided to go with a different plot near the end because let's face it, the ending of Brotherhood is dumb...while the conclusion to the 2003 series was at least creative and daring.

So many elements of the 2003 were changes that I think made FMA a better story than the manga or brotherhood...

Seriously just watch episode 1 (might need to watch first 2 of the 2003 series) of both series side by side (The priest leto arc). The difference in emotional value between the way each series chooses to tell the story is astonishing. It makes Brotherhood look like a freaking joke. If you don't have the time to do that, just watch the the scene from each series where Ed is in the church with rose and he has an argument with her about religion vs science. Just watch that scene from each series. The difference is huge.

As you can see I'm pretty passionate in my not understanding of how the "majority" seem to like brotherhood more. Even the voice acting standard seemed to take a huge nose-dive in Brotherhood (in regards to the lesser characters). The only good thing in my opinion about brotherhood was Ling.

I think you failed to read my other post which extended my opinion of Attack on Titan.

It may have a "excitement" factor to it, but I fail to see any "tragic" scenes in the anime; most of them come off as humorous than tragic. For instance, you see a guy in the first episode giving the torn off hand of a dead soldier to his crying mother and saying with a serious face “This is all we could salvage. And by the way, your son died for nothing." Was that supposed to be tragic and sad? Didn't make me feel like it. The show has many scenes where the viewer is supposed to take it seriously when in the end it's just plain stupid. I would also like to mention that I only notice the gore from people dying instead of seeing people experience the death. All it does is just add a shock factor which makes the audience gasp with the sight of blood and violence instead of seeing the people experience the death.

Honestly, if anyone paid attention, you can tell that the protagonist is just like Naruto screaming "I'm going to save Sasuke!!11!" every 2 minutes in the damn anime. Much like Naruto, the protagonist screams "I will defeat all the giants!!!!111" every 2 minutes. How annoying... makes me want to just strangle something.

Too lazy to add more. Anyways, I don't really want to stick my fingers and my eyes... I think I'm doing pretty fine not watching the anime without doing that. Enjoy watching your anime. I certainly will keep enjoying mine.

It's likely they can't show that sort of graphic violence due to their time slot or broadcaster. Berserk deciding to make a series of movies (where they wouldn't have to deal with broadcaster censorship) reminds me of this.

The scene with Hannah and Franz in episode 6 was heavily conveniently censored compared to the manga.

Uta no prince sama... grrrr this show makes me really frustrated... I can't stand the cheesy dialogues and the one-dimensional characters.

But I'm just so attracted to the animation quality. If only the characters had some substance to them, it would have been a perfect show.
