Three words: Sword Art Online

I can't believe it's even getting a second season, too !

As whether an anime gets a second series is strongly driven by "can we make money?", I would find it harder to believe if it didn't get a second series, given the disc sales in Japan for the first series.

I don't have a strong opinion on the series one way or to other (except for the Extra Edition, I have yet to view it), but I suspect what you are really trying to say is, "I can't believe so many people in Japan are willing to spend money on this".

One bit of comfort you can take from a big-selling series you think is crap is the funds generated by that give the financial cushion to those backing it to consider taking a risk on some other title that is a bit more financially risky, which could turn out to be something you think is worthy.

Like how Munchkin funded the new edition of Ogre.

Many companies don't work that way though, it depends on the thrust of the organization and the power of the creators (or sometimes that goes bad anyways, I always felt like the first season of Gunslinger Girls was just successful enough to let the creator really explore his fetishes in the second series).

~~

I think people end up having trouble with SAO because while it was always designed with these blockbuster tropes in mind, it only became more obvious how blatant it was as time went on. We all love a little fantasy fulfillment and action porn, but if you push it too far we're reminded that it really is just marketed fantasy fulfillment.

I'd say most of the Anime being simulcasted and that are popular with the community I consider garbage....
A better question would be which Anime's do you consider of quality.

But then i'm 29. My tastes are probably much more refined than the average teenager or young adult.

Doesn't like fate/zero.
Somehow has refined taste.
Nigga you high?

No I don't have these accounts but I'll look into it.

If you're starting fresh I'd recommend Hummingbird, I only use MAL now to check recommendations from other people based on specific series since Hummingbird hasn't added anything like that yet. There's also AniList but they were still having some website trouble the last time I was there and I haven't revisited them yet (that was a while ago though).

Tsk.

Just because someone doesn't like one anime doesn't mean that their tastes are bad.

I also don't like Fate/Zero, and I have very specific reasons for not liking it. I don't know if I would consider my tastes "refined," per se, but I definitely have specific reasons for why I do and do not like things (and I do think I have pretty good taste). Perhaps you could say that having such reasons and being able to articulate them does qualify as having refined tastes, but I don't really know/care about that.

It all depends in what you are looking for in an anime.

Fate/Zero didn't have what I was looking for, and maybe it didn't for the other guy either.

"Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann"...sorry. The themes were just so overdone and although an overdone them doesn't necessarily mean a bad anime, Gurren just failed to deliver for me. The animation was poor in my opinion and I felt little to no attachment to the characters. Everyone knows we should "never give up" and all that jazz. I lost interest somewhere around episode 3 but I decided to continue watching after all the good things I've heard about it. I nearly ended up completing the series but found it too painful to continue so I dropped it 3/4th's into the anime.

SAO - First episode was good, but than after that the anime turns into crap.
AoT - It isn't as good as people make it out to be. It almost put me asleep.
Fairy Tail - The humor is terrible.
Nisekoi - It's boring and it's too predicable.

Definitely the Monogatari series. It's so boring. Sure it's got its interesting points but there's really not much going on each episode and the fan service is really distracting and out of place.

Any type of Harem anime. I watch Reverse Harems occasionally but most of them are crappy as well.

Any type of Ecchi anime. Don't like panty shots, bouncing boobs.. real turn off in an anime for me.

I used to like Transforming Girl anime, but I can't stand them now. They're all pretty much the same and the characters are usually really annoying.

Hands down, Madoka Magika.

I get that it's a twist on the magical girl genre, and that is great and all, but I really don't see why it got so popular. The cover poster and intro make you believe it's going to be happy and upbeat, when it is the complete opposite.

Soundtrack was good though, and the ending fit the show WAAY more than the intro. Character designs.....eh....it was the reason why I didn't watch the show sooner in the first place. They reminded me of those Funko Pop! bobble heads they sell in stores.

Honestly? Sword Art Online. I think its too over hyped, and it gets kind of annoying. Every person I know who watches anime seems to fanboy/fangirl over it. I even see people with the name "Kirito" and "Asuna" on PSN, Xbox, Other forums I go on, etc... It's really not that great as they make it seem to be. I do admit it, it was good up until episode 12. Later it just drifted away from the suspense of being killed in-game.

The Sword Art Online anime just declined after the first episode, but I can't say I couldn't stand it. Well, that's mostly cause I liked the novel, though mostly just Gun Gale and the Alice arcs.

The one I really can't stand is Shingeki no Kyojin. The color scheme is really...I'm not sure how to word it other than 'gross'. It's all brown and red and brown. It's not really 'gross', but... The biggest thing is I don't like the titans. They look like anatomy dolls and that is 'gross'. I only watched the first episode, so I don't know much about the anime other than the main character wants to exterminate all titans and a few more random spoilers I saw floating around the internet, but I really didn't like it. Putting aside my dislike for the coloring, I just didn't like the first episode and main character. The main character's family dying and the main character then swearing revenge is way too cliche. There are times when I enjoy that type of cliche, but since there were too many other elements that I didn't like, I just dropped the whole anime.
Another thing I really hated, though this wasn't part of the anime itself, was how people would immediately recommend Shingeki no Kyojin if I said my favorite genre was tragedy. It didn't happen that often cause I don't have many people other than my siblings, who also don't care for Shingeki no Kyojin, to talk about anime with, but it still annoyed me a bit. It feels kind of awkward when I try to explain why I don't like it to friends who do like it.

Ecchi anime is also pretty annoying, especially when I have a headache.
