Believe it or not it can be a licensing issue to prevent the cheaper NA releases from being reverse imported to Japan so they may have to either only do a dub release for Bluray or have hard coded English subs you can't turn off or sometimes they just aren't allowed to do Bluray since the NA Region DVD won't play on most Japanese players while Region A Blurays play in NA and Japan.

If they could have peered into the future, the committee setting up regions would have created a second sub-region that excluded Japan (call it "Region A1"), so that Japan could produce Region A BD's that people in the Americas and southeast Asia could play, and companies outside Japan in those areas could produce region A1 discs that Japanese Blu-ray players couldn't play, easing those reverse import fears.

I don't really get all of the licensing mumbo-jumbo but they already have the title licensed. It's just the matter of going back and getting the HD content that was released only in Japan with the limited release. That would only be the problem really...

On the other hand, I don't think this series needs a dub, it's perfect the way it is! But if thats the only way they could do another release I doubt it would happen because NISA doesn't do dubs.

This is what the staff did for the Blu-Ray release, look at dat upscaling!

I would love NIS to do a blu-ray set for Toradora.

I live in the UK so I really cannot justify such a high price for a DVD set(plus our countries insane custom charges.)but I would totally make an exception and run the risk of import charges as long as it was a Blu-Ray.

I just got into Blu Ray about 10 weeks ago. I have spent probably $400 on movies and such and I have to say, many of the blu ray titles are worth the extra money, especially if you have a 1080p HD set. I have a 38 inch monitor that I use to watch blu ray and the difference is absolutely amazing.

One thing I want to point out though is that not all BLu Ray releases are in 1080p. I found that out the hard way after buying the Donnie Darko blu ray. The sound is upgraded, but the picture is not in 1080p. It seems most anime on Blu Ray does get the HD treatment though. Just keep an eye out and make sure the packaging specifically states that the feature is in 1080p. Otherwise, you are just paying a bunch of money for a glorified DVD.

If the ToraDora blu ray comes, I hope they don't mark it up through the roof. I have seen some blu ray sets go for as much as $140 for a single season of an anime. I always get the same excuse that since it's an inport, its going to more expensive. While I can see the price being higher, I cannot see spending $140 for a single season of an anime.

Sometimes I wish I could just save up a bunch of money and go to Japan for about 10 days and buy out all the anime there and bring it back with me.

they're moderately priced. most of their box sets are $50-60 for 12/13 episodes which seems to be standard with the other companies as well. their premium packages are also pretty nice.

In fact, that mumbo jumbo in the license is rather important. You can't sell something you aren't allowed to sell and the license tells you what you can sell and how you can sell it. If that says you can only sell it on DVDs then you can't sell it on Bluray... going to Japan to get the HD content doesn't help unless you ALSO get the license for it while you're there!!!

Eh, I'm not a big fan of dubs but I might watch this since I remember Toradora is one of the first anime series I've marathoned 20 episodes in row. Damn, that was a good Friday.
