sex is the basis of humanity i don't see why you'd lose respect for something that is part of being human or alive for that matter.

Well this thread took away a little bit of respect I have for humanity. I never wanted to date someone for sex. That is definitely an added bonus but not the whole thing.

To be fair that's not all the answers, hell that's not what I was hoping to find out

Oh nothing... Just the process of human courtship for the continuation of the species. Aside from that, no one would give a shit.

Generally, dating leads to a relationship is that is what both parties crave. It also fills numerous other roles. Most humans enjoy contact with other humans. Some, even those that consider themselves loners, also enjoy some human contact, but in very limited ways and usually with only a chosen few.

Dating, as it stands today, isn't all that different from old style courtship. As far as goals, and the way things may play out, the practice then and now are virtually unchanged. A few huge differences nowadays is that while the male was usually the one doing the courting, it is socially acceptable in many places now for a female to actively pursue the male. Some societies look down on this, but most do not see it as a big deal.

Take it from someone who hasn't been on a date in 9 years: there's nothing special about dating. Dating is something reserved for people who really like each other and eventually start having sex, get married, have kids, blah, blah, blah. The only way you'll know the answer to that question is if you start dating someone you really like. Unlike me, the poor loser who will be forever alone, I'm certain you'll find someone to answer that question for you sooner or later.

you get to know the other more.

i dont get the 'take her to dinner' kind of dates. seriously, i focus more on what i eat rather than my date. places like the arcade, amusement parks, and somewhere fun is my kind of a date

Well you're either going to be the bystander analyzing what is not there for you or you will get some experience. Other people have probably been where you are, take comfort in that. If they can do it so can you.

Personally, i have a tendency to manipulate myself in order to fulfill the missing pieces. I don't have to particularly take interest in it, i can very much pretend enough to think so.

Honestly I do the whole FWB thing nowadays. Relationships take a lot of time, effort and to me it's easier to get a college degree than to make a relationship work sometimes. Some of the women I've dated are just absolutely insane and make no sense whatsoever but I still love them and I would say most of my songs are cliche love songs too. Unfortunately my work does take a lot of my time and effort too but being a guitarist gets you plenty of women. I've been in love once in my life and that came from dating so yeah I guess it's special, still takes work and unfortunately she didn't love me back the same way so that was the end of that.

FWB = Friend with benefits

Dating Is often awkward and not that enjoyable but people date to establish relationships. Most people are looking for something may it be sex, love, companionship, marriage. Dating is a conventional way to seek these goals out.

I've never dated anyone, so I've never had the satisfaction. Being honest I wonder the same thing sometimes but I'd never have the courage to actually ask a girl out. At this rate, it will be a very long time before anything like that happens. In the meantime I'll sit and watch my peers grow up and eventually mature to the point where they realise that teen relationships are very much pointless but for emotional satisfaction and mistaken feelings of superiority.
