I've heard people recomend the army, to get the best self-defence. However, I want to do this on my sparetime and not get into the fucking army! I used to think about going to the army, before I tasted life lol (Graduated from High School) and freedom.

Well, which martial art would be best out of self-defence purpose? I've done 10 years of taekwondo but I quit. Thinking about getting into a new one. So which is best to protect yourself in a more and more violent world?

Get a gun. Instead of using 10 years training, you can use a couple of thousand dollars and boom, you are as safe as you can get.

First of all, cut out the swearing, besides no amount of Martial Arts can stop a bullet.

Well don't listen to people who say to buy a gun, because most likely if someone was to point one at you your reaching for it would cause them to pull the trigger in their own form of "self-defense". Martial Arts wouldn't really help either. Surely it's true that the best form of defense is to stay the hell out of the way of people. You wouldn't need it if you didn't have a gun, right? -_-

I hear becoming a hermit is pretty good for protecting yourself from the world.

You could try that.

My form of self-defence:

If possible run-away as fast as I can in zig zag directions toward a crowded area. If unable to do this scream really lound (for a guy I can scream like a little girlquite easily what theather does to you). Though only works if someone is near by. If all else fails, try to the fight back but if the person is holding a lethal weapon and demanding for your stuff. Its only better give them what they want, your life is more important than the stuff your currently holding. Besides, you can all was file a report to the police.

If you don't like touching people; stick fighting

If you really want to learn another martial art, I suggest doing research on the types that are available in your area. Then, research them by watching videos, looking them up, sitting in for a demonstration, and possibly trying them out as a trial. There is no such thing as "the best martial art to learn," because people aren't cut out for learning everything. For example, my younger sister can't hope to learn martial arts that depend on flexibility, because her spastic cerebral palsy (spastic diplegia) severely hampers the mobility of her legs. On top of that, her upper-body strength is pitiful, and her hand-eye coordination is pretty bad. She has to work on her strength and coordination before she can do much of anything.

It would be awfully frustrating to try and learn something like Drunken Boxing kung fu, only to find out that you lack the necessary sense of balance to learn it.

OH! OH!
I'll answer your question!

I like soft arts for self defense because it's easier not to break someone. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu works for me, but there are other arts that are similar. I also started in TKD and I've found the 2 compliment each other very well. Gracie and Machado are 2 excellent names to look for in BJJ.

Also, rjtam hit the nail on the head. Defending yourself also includes after the altercation. Possibly with police. Use the minimal amount of force required and be familiar with local, state and federal laws. Remember the magic words: "I just wanted him to stop what he was doing, Officer."

Mostly though never forget that your BRAIN is your best weapon. Learn how to fight without fighting. And when that's not possible, relax and enjoy yourself :D

Defense is spelled wrong for one....

Pepper spray and a hang gun is pretty essential in self defense for women. Ha, look at me, I don't have either. Well I have a hand pellet gun that does pretty good damage. As far as martial arts go, if there is a course for ninja... Count me in.
