I've heard people recomend the army, to get the best self-defence. However, I want to do this on my sparetime and not get into the fucking army! I used to think about going to the army, before I tasted life lol (Graduated from High School) and freedom.

Well, which martial art would be best out of self-defence purpose? I've done 10 years of taekwondo but I quit. Thinking about getting into a new one. So which is best to protect yourself in a more and more violent world?

I hear Krav Maga is pretty good (used by the military), but it's hard to find a school. There's only one in our town. What type of TKD did you study, and how far did you get?

I don't know how the law works where you live, but where I live, if I beat up a guy for trying to stab and rob me I'll have to go to prison. So I'd say Le Parkour; to be able to run away as swiftly as possible in any terrain.
I train MMA and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu myself, but I would never apply those skills outside of the dojo since all they do is injure my opponent, which, of course, would have me put in jail no matter the situation. Oh, it's a fucked up country I live in.

I was going to suggest the same... wing-chun is also a good one for hand-to-hand self-defense

Run like you are being chased by death and don't involve yourself. If that does not work just do some JuJutsu. Then run again.

I’d suggest learning a grappling martial art such as jiu jitsu or judo, but most martial arts have their good points and it’s generally more about the user than the art. A couple of handy tips: if you are attacked by multiple opponents (or someone a lot stronger and heavier) go for the eyes but don’t just extend your fingers out straight as they are easy to grab, keep them in a claw type shape. Also try to keep an attacker between you and another attacker.

Pepper spray and a hang gun is pretty essential in self defense for women. Ha, look at me, I don't have either. Well I have a hand pellet gun that does pretty good damage. As far as martial arts go, if there is a course for ninja... Count me in.

Defence is still correct it is the British variant of Defense.

I am rather fond of Krav Maga, Systema, myself. Very easy to break the bad guy. Also there is one rule and one rule only to a fight Cheat and Win.

You could always become a soul reaper ;D Buying a katana has already proven worth it for me when a robber broke in and I had him running for his life when I came swinging after calling the cops xD

How to remove a fence from yourself? Well, I'd recommend calling the local EMS. Just don't let them drive you to the hospital because that's a big bill.

Get a gun. Instead of using 10 years training, you can use a couple of thousand dollars and boom, you are as safe as you can get.

A couple of thousand dollars? Where are you getting these guns from? Are they made out of gold? For a decent handgun or a shotgun, all you need to put out there is between $150-$300.

Over the past 15 years I have studied boxing, jiu jitsu, karate, wrestling and muay thai. They are all great for self defense but, hands down the best is MMA. Mixed Martial Arts is what its title implies. It teaches you how to use the best aspects of boxing, jiu jitsu, karate, wrestling and muay thai plus many others in addition to how to use them all together at the same time. This makes for a devastating combination. Plus MMA is really fun!

Krav Maga hands down if you want something that actually works. Muy Thai/kickboxing and/or some sort of grappling/submssion type wrestling seems to work well for the MMA guys, but will require tons of work to get anywhere with.

And as much as I hate to open this can of worms, the gun thing REALLY isn't working out for you America. Even if you manage to pull the gun and shoot, getting your ass handed to you tends to be preferable to killing or maiming someone for life when looking back.

Um. Try again.

There are plenty of words in English with multiple spellings. Defence is one of them. It happens to be the UK spelling.

On topic - Krav Maga.
