Krav Maga hands down if you want something that actually works. Muy Thai/kickboxing and/or some sort of grappling/submssion type wrestling seems to work well for the MMA guys, but will require tons of work to get anywhere with.

And as much as I hate to open this can of worms, the gun thing REALLY isn't working out for you America. Even if you manage to pull the gun and shoot, getting your ass handed to you tends to be preferable to killing or maiming someone for life when looking back.

It's not only Americans with itchy trigger-fingers.

If you really want a self defense martial are i would recommend Krav Maga. It is a very realistic and brutal style and is extremly effective. Honestly though getting a gun and learning how to use ( I.E. Actually take combat marksmanship training) it is the best form of self defense. As far as guns go I would recommend a glock 19 a S&W M&P 9c or if you like revolvers a Ruger SP 101 in 357 magnum. ( I am an apprentice gunsmith and in my opinion they are the best bet for a good reliable defensive handgun.) If you decide to get a gun you NEED to read up on your local handgun laws and whether or not you need a CCL. ( Vary by state)

Um. Try again.

There are plenty of words in English with multiple spellings. Defence is one of them. It happens to be the UK spelling.

On topic - Krav Maga.

Well sorry for not being taught how to spell like a Brit.

Blame Noah Webster. He deliberately changed how the words were spelled for Americans during and after the Revolutionary War, because he disliked the English to the extent of wanting to differentiate how we spell from the UK.

I've heard people recomend the army, to get the best self-defence. However, I want to do this on my sparetime and not get into the fucking army! I used to think about going to the army, before I tasted life lol (Graduated from High School) and freedom.

Well, which martial art would be best out of self-defence purpose? I've done 10 years of taekwondo but I quit. Thinking about getting into a new one. So which is best to protect yourself in a more and more violent world?

Get a gun. Instead of using 10 years training, you can use a couple of thousand dollars and boom, you are as safe as you can get.

A couple of thousand dollars? Where are you getting these guns from? Are they made out of gold? For a decent handgun or a shotgun, all you need to put out there is between $150-$300.

Woops i meant to write hundred. Although it would be kind of awesome to have a gun made out of gold

銃道 (Juu-do) The way of the gun (J/k)

Really a gun is the most effective tool for self-defense in a life threatening situation, but like any other tool you need to be proficient in its use. You can't just buy a gun and call it a day.
Likewise the proper mindset on when to use that training is also paramount. The best all around self-defense though, is awareness, if at all possible, avoid getting into a situation where one would need to use that training and tool. But if worst comes to worst the options need to be available.

best martial art is a double ought buck to the chest. But seriously, I think eskrima is the fastest, only one problem. You need weapons.

I'm honestly shocked no one brought it up but you could always take a class on self defense. I took one in college and they taught me how to break someones instep and give them a limp for the rest of their life.

Also I'd say keep a list of all of your debit/credit cards like who they are with and their numbers so if you get robbed you can just report them stolen and call to have them deactivated. Then keep the list and valuable things like your social security card (If your from the USA) in a safety deposit box. You might get robbed and lose what ever cash you have on you but it would be cheaper to hand over what's in your wallet then to keep getting training in different types of defense >.>

I learned combatives in the Army and coupled that with boxing and it seems to have worked out well for me thus far. Between that, my flash-bang and my pistol I feel amazing safe.
