They just released the sixth episode of SAO for anyone who is interested.

I guess that means they are going to be releasing one new episode per day (or weekday)...at least for now.

Given that subtitled versions already exist for most (if not all) of these series, I wonder why they are gating the releases. Is Daisuki trying to limit traffic to their site? Are the partners slow to deliver material because the ad base isn't there? (Which would be foolish, as you aren't going to have advertisers without viewers). Is the operation so understaffed they can't handle more?

I have my account, and I'm currently checking it out. Not what I was expecting. I was thinking that they would opted a subscription like Crunchyroll, however just by reading their FAQ; you have to pay for the videos you want to watch it unless they're marked a free by the looks of it if I'm reading it right.

Update
Looking at their Regarding copyrights page, they're going to have One Piece, Fate/Zero, Vanguard, and Naruto Shippuden soon.

All in all, I'm going to keep my eye on Daisuki as the months roll on.

I think some of those copyrights are for the launch giveaway campain.

Reporting live. Daisuke has a booth at AnimeBoston. They are giving away empty plastic bags. These are the sor of bags you might be given to hold department store purchases. Not the kind you can reuse almost forever. Yes they do say Daisuki.net on them, but no one's taking. They are begging people to take a bag!

Well, there was a marketing postcard in the bag.

To be fair, I haven't seen much swag at all. Funimation has little buttons, Aniplex had nothing (at least when I went by), and those are the only big industry booths I saw. Everyone else seemed to be independent dealers selling stuff--no giveaways!

Daisuki posted the 6th episode of Gundam Seed HD Remaster today, which fits the pattern of posting a single new episode per weekday. At this rate, they won't even finish the series by the time the Gundam.Info channel on YouTube finishes Gundam Seed Destiny HD Remaster.

Hopefully they will pick up the pace soon, otherwise they will still be working on finishing shorter series like Madoka Magica when the next round of simulcasts rolls around.

UPDATE:

They missed a day, but already posted a new episode for today (their time). More importantly, they now have the second round of the anime titles poll available now.

So watching anime on Daisuki is free.
It's runned by people from the anime business.
How can they give people it for free? So the anime business isn't struggling, becaus of illegal downloading and streaming then?
So what's so wrong about downloading and streaming then, when even the creators of anime lets people watch it for free?

First, if they own it then it is THEIR CHOICE to stream it for free or not. It is illegal for you to rebroadcast it in any form so uploading it or re-streaming it is illegal. Not just their choice, it is THEIR RIGHT as rights holders to broadcast it for free or not, or to sell the rights to others. You offering it for free or watching it for free illegally elsewhere infringes upon their rights.

How can they do it for free? First, it is free TODAY. It will not be free forever, just you watch.

They also sell things there. I am sure that soon you will be able to purchase the discs, figures, etc. all the merch for all their shows. Where is the best place to advertise for it? Right below the stream of course. Late night anime is essentially just an ad for itself. It is like the old days where you needed a toy merch partner. Today the production committee generally consists of partners who sell things around the anime, original material, follow-on material, etc.

Ok.

Hope it'll be like CR. 360p for normal users and higher quality for premium then.

Also, does anyone know who subs the shows there?
Is it the anime companies or someone english?

Did anyone from CR win a prize from the first contest they had? I applied once every 24h but got nothing, what a bummer that was.

I think they are revealing the winners during the middle of July so I think it's too early to see if you won. I applied when I had a chance or when I remembered about the application, so I may not win anything...

Per their Twitter account yesterday:

Hi! The winners of the 1st round will receive a mail by mid July.

I got the "Site under maintenace" page a few minutes ago (around 7:30 PM CDT) when going to Daisuki, and there was no mention of it at the time in their Twitter stream. It is back now, but navigation seems to be quite slow (i.e, Funimation.com slow); worrisome for a site that will be starting the stream of a popular series this weekend.
