In Northwestern India lies a village known as Bhangarh. The village has been abandoned for over 400 years and is said to be cursed.

According to legend, Bhangarh was cursed by the Guru Balu Nath. He allowed the village to be constructed under one condition: "The moment the shadows of your palaces touch me, the city shall be no more!" When a descendant prince raised the palace to a height that cast a shadow over Balu Nath's forbidden retreat, he cursed the village. Balu Nath is said to be buried there to this day in a small samadhi (state of consciousness induced by complete meditation).

Another legend exists involving the Princess of Bhangarh, Ratnavati. On her eighteenth birthday, Princess Ratnavati began to receive offers of marriage from other regions (such as from members of nobility). In the area lived a magician named Singhia. Singhia was in love with the princess, but knew that it would be impossible for him to marry her. One day, Singhia saw the princess's maid in the market. He cast black magic on the oil that the maid was purchasing so that when the princess touched it, she would surrender herself to him. However, the princess foiled his plan by pouring the oil on the ground. As the oil struck the ground, it crushed Singhia to death. As he was dying, Singhia cursed the palace with the death of whoever lived in there. The next year, there was a battle between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh in which Princess Ratnavati perished.

Legends say that there are ghosts remaining in Bhangarh. It is also said that you do not want to be in the village after dark, because if you do, you will never return.

Visitors are prohibited from entering the village between sunset and sunrise. There is a sign posted with a warning message written in Hindi. The message roughly translates to: "Entering the borders of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset is strictly prohibited. Legal action would be taken against anybody who does not follow these instructions".

That's what I was thinking. The stories are made up to hide something they don't want anyone to know about........it's usually trying to hide criminal activity or something worth a lot of money.

Go tell Fred to grab his ascot and move it, I'll call Shaggy & Scooby to come bring the van around.

While reading the story I was rolling my eyes and trying to decide which Scooby-doo picture I should try and hunt down. Then I saw your post and my efforts were crushed. Well done. v.v

I would of gotten away with dumping those corrosive chemicals, if it hadn't been for those kids (and their dog).

I could definitely believe that. I was too distracted to even consider someone would have already made the reference. Oh well, you win this time. *shakes fist* >=(

Too many legends, and magic. I don't believe in such things. They probably put up that sign to attract tourists.

secret government facility, they wouldnt have legal action done cause shit its supposedly "cursed" why would you be the one performing the action when that person walked in there in the first place? probably working on secret weapons or like previous people said something worth lots of money.
