I deliberately tried to level my expectations when the intro sequence began. I had been hurt before... cough=Iron Man 3. This film has excellence in every corner. The cast and writing served to complement each other on a very high level and the action and events served the plot and kept the tension at a high level for an extended period of time. This is a great romp through a space saga. Even if it had nothing to do with Star Trek it would have been excellent regardless. The fact that this builds solidly on the franchise only serves to make it more special. The new 3D post conversion technique was very good, and while not as good as native 3D I was generally impressed throughout as it definitely added presence and depth to most scenes. Spock and Kirk play great off of each other and the crew shines very nicely through all of the scenes. Comberbatch-pardon me don't know how to spell his name= was spectacular and I really mean that. His role as Khan was seamless and he brought the character to life like few actors in our generation could, its that good. Also I see fit to mention that the they keep feeding you the action like you are in line at a Casino Buffet. This film could possibly end 2 times before the credits role. As this movie deserves respect I will not give any details, but suffice to say that many relationships are advanced and this film could end up being the best SCI-FI addition for film this year...period. I left the theater very satisfied and unlike Iron Man 3 was able to see villainy play its proper course, with intelligence and proper execution. Spock is a great static/dynamic character as he is at war with himself just as much as the external given circumstances. You will see him control his emotions and break loose several times during the film which make it even more epic when he lets loose. There are also half a dozen nods to hardcore fans in the film that many will appreciate, including first generation music at the ending credits which I found to be particularly awesome...Bottom line is that I highly encourage any fan of film to go see Star Trek Into the Darkness as it is both a visual treat and has a very well executed balance of both character and writing. I wont keep on writing for fear of divulging plot points. Everybody enjoy a great summer blockbuster film. Good Job JJ Abrahms good job..... Ace

Just got back from watching it. It was awesome! One of the most brilliantly done villains I've ever seen.

Could you possibly spoiler tag that bit? I know it's something that's hard to keep a secret once the movie's out, but it's a pretty big deal for people who haven't seen it yet. It's nice to go into the theater without knowing.

As a person who has never been a Star Trek fan, I'm still not a Star Trek fan after watching it.

However, I can now say that I am a SPOCK fan.

I really enjoyed it. I know the movie will probably upset some die-hard Star Trek fans, but I think they'll be the vocal minority. It was fun to watch with plenty of nice homages to previous episodes and movies. Overall, it was well done.

Just saw it tonight and I loved it. Not a huge Trek fan myself but some of the movies and shows have been decent enough. The newest movies have been amazing though and I'll probably go back and watch it again with my dad and brother who are the Trekkies in the family.

Abram's Star Trek movies occur in an alternative universe, they won't chronologically mesh with the rest of the franchise.

Man thats a shame. So then we are no longer even watching prequels anymore! Ugh this whole thing feels like a cop out on the part of the producers. Too hard to make a prequel? Well then just parallel the crap out of it! What a jip

My understanding was there was too much baggage tied to the franchise and it'd been so thoroughly explored they couldn't really do anything new without it basically being meaningless filler in the existing universe.

But I've also never really cared for Star Trek, so I don't really care if they mine old material to make new movies.

This movie could have been amazing if it weren't for that bloody ending.
