Y: The Last Man

This is a comic literally about the very LAST male on the planet earth. A dark bizzare phenomenon takes place in an instant, and every male human and creature die at the same exact moment. All except one man, named Yorick.

I was at the comic store and I was recommended to give this one a read, and I gotta admit the only regret I have so far, is not picking up ALL the volumes that exist to date. This story becomes pretty dark pretty quick. Normally I don't become too emotional with characters, but the way its written and the antagonist's that appear really do honestly make me hate them and wish to see them die.

Heck, right on the front cover STEPHEN KING even quotes saying "This is the best graphic novel I have ever read!"
If that's not enough to get you interested, I don't know what else to tell you. If you ever EVER get the chance, then by all means give it a read. I really ought to head back to the city and grab a few more volumes now <3

BATMAN: HUSH

I personally think that this and 2 other stories of the Batman comics really grappled my interests. For anyone who has not heard of nor read the HUSH series, really ought to give it a chance. Someone begins to manipulate the big name villains of Gotham to achieve an unpredictable ending. I guess what really made me enjoy this one, is because Batman actually plays the roll as a detective. Which is over looked so often in today's culture.

Anyways, give it a look!! You just may enjoy it more then you would think.

THE WALKING DEAD

Really good comic series. If you enjoyed the show, you may enjoy the read even more.
Both are fairly different. Both are great for different reasons.

Dr. McNinja is a great comic when it comes to absurdity. Multiple timelines, dinosaurs, and a mustache of authority to name a few things in it. It's worth checking out.

I'm still new to comics, and most of it's because the art style is unnatural and unappealing to me, so I tend to veer towards european works.

I really, really love Blacksad. It's a must read for every comic fan, I swear. It's a film noir style detective series, with the most beautiful watercolor paintings. The artist puts so much work into getting the color just right.

I also really love Cucumber Quest for its humor and again, those colorrrrssss. Gigi D.G is so good at using colors to convey moods, but her story telling's really solid as well. It's a hilarious deconstruction of the usual boy saves the world plot.

I'd list more webcomics, but I'd be here all day, and many of them are already well known enough to not need a plug.

For manga, holy land is hands down my favorite manga. I also believe it's one of the best martial arts manga of all time.

For comics I love the characters Nova and the scarlet spider. So that means I'm pretty interested in seeing where the newest iteration of the new warriors is going. I also agree with previous posts, y:the last man is pretty great.

I know a lot of you have only ever read Manga so I'm going to start with

*~No spoilers!!! Yey~*

Wayward

Image Comics

The writer of this one actually spent many years in Japan, researching and learning about their culture. The whole comic (so far) takes place in Tokyo, Japan. Rori, main character is half Japanese (mom) and half Irish (dad). Upon arriving, she runs into these monsters and a girl and ... cats? Lots of cats. This weird light, almost like a trail, appears before her and leads her away from the danger. Now she has to figure out why these monsters were attacking her and what the heck those weird glowy trails were!

Saga

Image Comics

Man, this one. Oh god this one is the one that started it all for me. I looked at comics and I though "Ew they're all the same. Superheros and too many words". Saga is so much more. The very first issue starts you off with this couple, so in love that they would dare make a love child in a world where their very races are at war with. Marko (Mr. Horns up there) is from a moon orbiting Landfall, which is where Alana is from (winged chick). Now the whole galaxy, maybe even the whole universe is after them and their taboo child.
Oh and the narrator is the infant child. She's super adorable.

Crossed

Avatar Comics

***MATURE CONTENT MARKED AS SPOILERS
BLOOD AND GUTS, RAPE, ANYTHING EVIL YOU CAN THINK OF***

Perfect for all you Attack on Titan junkies (I assume you only watch for the blood and guts?)

The crossed were once humans like you and I, no one knows how it started or even cares anymore. A virus or maybe just something in or brains as a whole snapped. Causing us to go to our most primal state. No. Not even animals would do the things the crossed do. They eat and fuck anything in sight. They find pleasure in ripping off limps and fucking them. Pain is pleasure to the crossed. Each volume of crossed follows a new group of "survivors". Don't be disappointed though, each story is just as good if not better than the last.
Just keep in mind, if you think the story can't get any more fucked up that it is now... You're gravely mistaken.

Deadpool

Marvel Comics

Come on. How can I not add The Merc With The Mouth?? This dude cracks me up. Seriously I don't even need an introduction. If you don't know Deadpool, you've already lost. Oh... and you also just lost the game. Sorry.

Nailbiter

***More Mature content, Less graphic than Crossed though***

The Wicked + The Divine

This one is so beautiful, the artwork, the story, the characters. Oh god the characters. Literally. Every hundred years of so a small group of random teens from around the world are "selected" toe be the reincarnated bodies of gods. The only catch, you die after two years. Better make the most of it.

As of right now that is all I can think of. These are just some of my favorites. Of course there are smaller series:

Lola
Rocketgirl
Birthright
Revival
Hinterkind
DMZ
Y: The Last Man

etcetera
