Just a cartoon
Chinese cartoons(Yup I said Chinese)
Kid shows
Weird etc etc

But the thing that erks me the most is when I watch any type of Kamen Rider series or any Tokusatsu show period (Not anime sadly but I must share) and they call it Japanese power rangers.

Is my face trying to contain my anger

Never had someone say anything about anime like what is seen above. Although when I was younger, I didn't know it was called anime, but I never called them "cartoons", so I always had trouble defining what Pokemon or Dragon Ball Z was. (Or any other anime that anyone would know about.)

Before I got into anime: I can't remember.
When I got into anime: Japanese.

Nice, no?

People think of Pokemon, think of you as gay because of some "Yaoi" they have seen somewhere, only for kids (just like video games lol), plus other stereotypes and names that pop up from time to time that I cannot remember. Although once I explain about things like Anime Expo helping to promote Japanese animation and the fact that I see it as a personal business module for me, or that it deals with importing (business again), people pretty much shut up about it now.

Many people you speak to with a serious notion to make them understand, and as long as they are mature enough then they will.

For me my family usually refers to them as cartoons or children's shows.

Granted they're never seen the depth of the content of anything I watch.

Yep. Though I maintain my Otaku personality separately from my social life (insubstantial though it may be)

Some call it weird, some call it awesome. I don't really tell people my interests unless they ask. I just don't feel like its necessary to let someone know what I enjoy. If they want a glance into my interests, they can just visit my room and look at my walls, or ask. I'm kind of an unenthusiastic, secretive person, which is the reason why people get surprised when they find out I like anime. Some reactions were kind of like "ew........" but most of the time people get upset that I didn't tell them I liked it sooner, because we could have talked about it more.

My family is quite casual when it comes to anime. My mom and dad would ask me for suggestions, and I'd give it to them. One time they found Samurai Champloo and watched it on their own, without my knowledge. My friends are all different, and some of them think it's weird that I like anime, but they don't mind it much, considering most can look at themselves in the mirror and understand that I am not the only one with "weird'' hobbies......

I didn't really have much of a problem when I started watching anime. I pretty much told my mom that anime is Japanese cartoons and after that she would just say "oh, is that your anime/Japanese cartoons?" It was even better with games, since she was pretty much the one who got me started first with an Atari 2600 and then a N64. I remember playing The Legend of Zelda: OoT and she would make fun of Link's name by calling him a sausage link.

I actually watched anime for a few years before discussing it with anyone coz I wasn't really a talking person and didn't see it necessary to tell them about my life including my family. But then my sister came up to me and tried to explain what Bleach and anime was and that I might like it and I told her, I already seen the up to date episodes and she was just because she didn't know lol. But now I discuss some of my favourites series with her and she does fan art for me as well :). My mum always asks me what I got when I order stuff and takes an interest in what kind of story it is. But everyone in my family just call it anime actually. We all watched Death Note as a family lol. That was kind of weird but they all enjoyed it. My other sister asked me why I enjoy manga/anime once out of the blue though. Sometimes I wish they were a bit more open minded and tried out some series for themselves. I mean, seriously I want them to watch Attack on Titan for the awesomeness. I don't think they get as attached to stories and characters as I do though.

Someone ragged on Sword Art Online and Naruto Shippuden, I punched them square in the face for their arrogance.

but for naruto i HATE it, it sucks so much and i dont even think of if it as anime. its something that would be on kiddy tv channels like nicko or cartoon network. it too westernized and i guess im too old for it cus it seems to aimed for kids only
