Seriously, are these new social networking sites all the hype they're cracked up to be or just a waste of time. What are the pros and cons to these sites? Do you have an account to any of these sites, if so how often do you log on? Is it really convenient that most websites are all linked to Facebook and Twitter, even other networking sites?

Same here exactly. Never heard of them and find them useless. Guess their "hype" isn't very widespread either.

Yay, I make the third person to never hear of any of them . Only social sites I use is Facebook, mainly to communicate with friends that live a long ways away. Don't see a need to do more than that

Vine, Socialcam and Viddy is like Twitter but with a Timeline of clips and vids. All those sites are quite similar.

Here's a break down. Personally, I've used three of them -- Vine (enjoyable), Socialcam (meh), and Path (not bad, but a bit spammy and somewhat intrusive). Vine is actually quite interesting if you're the creative type.

- Path [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_%28social_network%29]

Path is a social networking-enabled photo sharing and messaging service for mobile devices, launched in November 2010. The service allows users to share with their close friends and family. The company began with an iPhone application and a website and released an Android version later. The company competes with other social networks such as Instagram.

Based in San Francisco, California, the company was founded by Shawn Fanning and former Facebook executive Dave Morin. Path's initial $2.5 million funding round included Ron Conway, Index Ventures, First Round Capital, Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Rose, Marc Benioff, Chris Kelly, and others. It subsequently raised $30 million in venture capital from Redpoint Ventures.

- Vine (owned by Twitter) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vine_%28app%29]

Vine is a mobile app that enables its users to create and post 6 second video clips. Video clips created with Vine have a maximum length of 6 seconds and can be shared or embedded on social networking services such as Twitter—which acquired the app in October 2012—and Facebook. Initially available for iOS, Twitter is working on bringing the app to other platforms.

- Socialcam [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialcam]

Socialcam is a mobile social video application for iPhone and Android, that was launched March 7, 2011. It allows users to capture and share videos online and on mobile, as well as via Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. By July 2012, the application passed 16 million downloads and was acquired by Autodesk for $60 million. Socialcam was founded by Michael Seibel, Ammon Bartram, and Guillaume Luccisano and is located in San Francisco, CA.

- Viddy [http://www.viddy.com/] - Looks like a photo/video sharing social network. Much like Instagram. It appears it's under a bit of financial and competitive pressure also:

- Social video startup Viddy lays off a third of its staff
- http://venturebeat.com/2013/02/25/viddy-layoffs/ (February 25, 2013)

Viddy is apparently planning to reduce its operations and marketing workforce by cutting 12 positions (or a third of its total employees), reports TechCrunch. The news comes just weeks after CEO and cofounder Brett O’Brien was canned for reportedly turning down an insane buyout offer from Twitter.

I use Vine, Viddy, and Socialcam a LOT with my friends. That being said, it's obviously not going to be any fun if you're just a loner in terms of apps and etc. It may be useless to you, but it's certainly not useless to me. These apps pretty much require friends who will make them fun with you unless you're super creative and you make cool videos that other people around the world like.

I don't use Path anymore though.. that thing got old.

Pretty much everyone I personally know has a Vine. Not many use Viddy and Socialcam - and I barely know anyone who uses Path much.

Well, you said it right. I'm a loner, therefore I have no use for any of these.
