How do you remove your credit card so it doesn't make monthly payments?

I went ahead and disabled the renewal for you. So you don't need to worry about being charged once it expires. Once your membership expires, it will automatically cancel on it's own. Next time, if you don't want to worry about the renewal, just gift yourself the membership. Gifts aren't on renewal.

Sorry for bumping an old post, but I found this one on google. How do I remove a card that is on file?

A friend of mine wanted to gift me a year but instead activated monthly payments. I want to remove his card from my account and he will just gift me the year once my current month expires.

If you go to /acct/membership/billing (follow the "Change Card" link from the /acct page), you can overwrite his CC information with your own.

In the future, I'd recommend your friend gift you a membership instead: /store/p/82544/All-Access-Membership-Gift (the Anime and Manga Memberships is linked at the bottom of that page).

Hi there!

Users can now cancel their recurring subscription on their own by going to their account settings page. So click the following link:
https://www.crunchyroll.com/acct/membership/

And then click "cancel", then "cancel recurring subscription". Your current membership will cancel on it's own once it expires. Your friend can then gift you a 12 month membership.

Edit:
It seems you have already canceled your recurring subscription successfully.

It's been a few days since it happened. Customer support has been wanting this change forever, so we're real happy users can now disable their renewals on their own. They can't do it for free trials though. They would need to cancel their entire trial if they do not wish to be put on a subscription. Only paid premium memberships have the ability to disable their renewal. It doesn't matter how many days they have left, they can cancel their renewal now. Whoo! :]

We knew gifting existed and that is what he was trying to do. He had already added his information and the trial ended before he found out how to gift a year, otherwise that is what we would've done. Thanks for the link to the billing page, I'll replace his card info with mine.

I am trying to remove my credit card from this site and I can not figure out how to remove it. It just gives me the option of replacing it with another. I want to have NO credit card on here. How do i do that.

You would have to cancel recurring payments entirely (should be a separate button for that), then wait until your paid-up period expires so that you become a non-subscriber. At that point, you should be able to remove your card and then (presumably) replace it with Paypal or use gift subscriptions instead...

As long as you are a continuing subscriber, it seems you have to have a payment method attached to your account.

TLDR: You're absolutely right to want your card number off the site. CR's security practices practically invite fraud, they themselves may have been compromised, they know that a disturbingly-high number of people have had their accounts compromised and large bills run up in the CR store, and yet they still refuse to let you take your card number off (or even let you designate the card for subscription use only) while your subscription is active. A subscription you've already paid for.

As asharka says, CR refuses to let you take your card info off while you have an active subscription... unless you replace it with another valid card. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It wouldn't be nearly as much of a concern if it weren't for the fact that a few times a week for several months now, a new user comes to the forums begging for help because their account was compromised, someone is charging money on their card in the CR store, and customer support hasn't responded for several days, sometimes weeks. And they're probably the minority, or a small minority, of the compromised accounts. Forums are on a sharp decline almost everywhere, and most users probably aren't even aware of them (let alone think of them as a resource for help when they're being ripped off).

1) Why does CR think they have any justification to force you to keep a card on file? We pay in advance, so it's not like they're afraid of being ripped off by someone using the service and not paying.

2) Why does CR refuse to send you an email to let you reset the change when an intruder changes your email (locking you out of the account, since you can no longer do a password reset)? The only forum user they seem to respect is TheAncientOne (who routinely defends them)... and they won't even listen to him suggesting this and the change below, at least twice now.

3) For that matter, why do they refuse to even warn you when your email gets changed? They send an email notifying the intruder (the new email), not you (the old email).

4) Why does CR refuse to let you opt out of using your card in the CR store when I would bet the vast majority of users only want to pay for a subscription?

5) Last but not least, why are they so certain that their own system hasn't been compromised? Every single time someone begs for help, they're told it must be their fault somehow (for choosing a weak password, or for using the same password on some other site that got compromised or was phishing). If the victim says that's not true, they're essentially accused of lying because supposedly their password shows up on Google as compromised. How does CR know that the reason for this isn't because it was compromised on CR's site?

I openly challenge CR management to answer any of the above with something more logical than "That's our policy", i.e. "Because we said so, now take it or leave it".

If I ever return as a premium subscriber after this year runs out, it'll have to be with a method of payment that I can be certain CR won't be able to charge without my personal explicit authorization... i.e., not the excuse they've used elsewhere, "They gave us the card number and (supposedly) didn't protect their account, so they authorized it". TheAncientOne says PayPal makes this possible, but considering the number of people that have complained about being unable to buy a CR subscription with cash they've deposited in PayPal for one-time use, I'm beginning to wonder.

I'm curious if other services (Netflix, Funimation, etc.) let you remove a credit card after you've paid. I don't know, as I've never tried. I would wager Netflix wouldn't as they are a month to month subscription. Of course, they don't have an online store for it to be coupled to. I don't know about Funimation, but I believe their store account is separate from their online subscription (unlike CR).

I'll keep suggesting it.

Frankly, sending out the e-mail to both the old and new e-mail address should be a very minor code change. I also don't recall seeing them offer any (valid or otherwise) excuse for not doing so.

That alone is the best solution, but it would be a good first step.

I have my debit card linked to my PayPal account as a backup source (they always take the money from my bank account, which is in fact the same one the card pulls from), so I can't speak to the accounts without one. Frankly, I don't think PayPal will let you set up an account unless it at least has a bank account linked.

Thank you - and my apologies that I'm always causing trouble of some sort that you have to try to make the best of.

It's just that I know CR can be far better than this (i.e. how things have gotten across the board). I've seen CR be far better this. I wish it could be again.

Thank you for the info. I may give it a try, or I may give virtual credit cards a try, or I may just take a break for a while. It's not like I can watch video any more with the st... utt.. er... ing, and the manga seems to be treated as an afterthought now. The primary reason I still pay is because I want to support the creators of the anime I love, and I guess I can probably do that at Funimation just as well.
