i joined the free trial and i couldn't cancel my "premium subscription" because of some "internal error/site problem" before the recurring payment, twice. then i forgot about it for 2 months, and now, only after being charged twice ofc, i could cancel the recurring subscription.
and you're still holding ostage of my credit card info.

you guys are fucking thieves.

Once your renewal is cancelled, you should be able to remove the CC info and/or nuke the account.

You should also direct all billing issues to customer support through the /contact form.

you're probably better off going to your bank and changing your credit card.
CR will not let go of your information unless they absolutely (by law) have to, and they'll take their time to do so
(removing your info could take anywhere from a week to over a year)

Cards not associated to an ongoing subscription can be removed at all times.
Having a card replaced by the bank will not resolve anything, as any recurring payments will carry over to a new card automatically. Banks do this on their own in order to prevent their customers from dodging bills.

Either this is a recent development, varies by bank, or only applies for payments of a certain frequency threshold, as I've definitely had recurring payments cease when I got a new card in the past.

This applies to most banks. As long as the credit card is a follow-up to another card issued by the same bank on the same customer account, all recurring subscriptions should carry over without any further questions asked. For legitimate subscription it would be fairly inconvenient for the customer as well, if they had to report any change in card details to all services they are subscribed to.
It's a different story if the card is fully terminated and an entirely new account is created with another bank. In such a case the charges will bounce (though that will probably fuck up credit scores for the customer in question).

Best practice:
Write down your card details and keep them in a safe place, or don't destroy or throw away the old card when you're having it replaced. Businesses one has recurring subscriptions with will need those old details to find accounts. It's a major PITA to find and terminate payments, if the old card details are not available any more, as the banks will not give new data to the businesses, and may even be unable to give them to the customers even.

You need to cancel your trial first. It's a trial subscription, not simply two weeks for free, so while it is in effect you cannot remove the card.

https://crunchyroll.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205801759-How-do-I-cancel-my-membership-or-trial-

Once you cancel the trial, then you should be able to remove the card info:

/acct/billing

Note that canceling a trial stops your premium benefits immediately, since the result of your trying it out is that you have decided that the service is not what you wanted.

Cancelling a trial is different than cancelling an actual paid membership. The latter would run to the completion of the period which was paid for.

I have been in contact with support billing through the /contact page and yet there is still no answer as to why I can't delete my credit card info, or purchase Premium membership.

I haven't been a Premium member since the end of May 2017, yet when I attempt to delete my credit card I get the following message:
"This payment method cannot be removed because it is currently being used to pay for a pending membership."

I am a free member and CrunchyRoll's support team throwing me free 14-day subscription to bide their time is just... so frustrating. :|

Going to the 'upgrade' page when I click through to purchase Premium membership I get the following text:
"You have pending checkouts."

So not only can I not purchase Premium membership, have a Free membership... I can't delete my credit card info? Support is being hopelessly dismal in helping me? Short of cancelling the credit card and then deleting my account, I don't know what to do. These glitches in the system (which are YEARS OLD...?) don't inspire confidence. The whole ordeal has turned me off of CrunchyRoll entirely. I don't want my personal information compromised.

You should /contact customer support directly for billing issues, unless you're subscribed via iTunes, and there are other options if you're subscribed via PayPal.

You won't be able to remove your billing information from the site until your cancellation is processed.
