Well ye, but I might watch it since F/Z is one of my favorites still, at least from the previous seasons.

Been a while huh? "LAWL"

Yea. I would watch this one if I can access it easily without paying too much and legit and in good quality- just like Stein:GATE. In short, probably not.

Well, given Aniplex's price tags, it's not too unexpected.

Unrelated: Can't wait for the new Garden of Sinners movie.

It has Crispin Freeman, so it can't be all bad haha :P

But then again, I like dubs. Sometimes, it's nice to not have to read subtitles. (Fave dubs? Cowboy Bebop and Baccano!) Ultimately, it's a personal preference thing.

The English Excalibur cries from Stay Night and UBW were cool too. You can't really mess it up, but yes, Ayako Kawasumi's rendition is the best.

Question: Did you actually listen to the Fate/Zero dub other than the trailer or the first episode or two?

Umm dude? What can you see when you see more episodes than 1 or 2? Do the voice actors change somehow? Or what?
When you look at 1-2 episodes you'll hear every single voice actor, so why would you say that it doesn't show anything?

I think F/Z has about 4 decent voice actors, Kiritsugu, Alexander, Kariya and Mr.Tohsaka.. Everyone else is either high-pitched, unfitting, or bad. Lancer doesn't sound like anything. He sounds bland and uninspired. Saber's voice doesn't fit her style at all, the Einsberg lady sounds like a 6 year old.. The names get butchered by that awful pronounciation.

Dubs are generally worse than subs. That's all. Of course you need to act sceptical towards dubs, when 95% of the animes that are dubbed are bad.

I find it hilarious that half the responses so far aren't answering the actual question but are in fact just saying all dubs ruin anime to which I point you to Gigguk's rant on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IyItqjCAag

To the actual question I think the dub's been rather good at the moment and before the dub haters rage at me I did watch the whole series here on Crunchyroll first. I quite like a lot of the voices with Rider being a personal favourite also on a quick side note the dub makes the series a lot easier to watch, mainly the first episode info dump, since it's far easier to hear this stuff explained in english than it is to read subtitles. But so far I've found nothing wrong with the dub besides Gilgamesh who sounds a bit off to me but no big deal.

Lastly just to annoy the living hell outta dub haters: I like both dubs and subs and if a dub is avalible for an anime I'm going to watch I WILL watch the dub before the sub... come at me.

that video was awesome lmao i do always feel liek there is that "one" voice tho that is bad or just really doesnt fit and i dont think this sounded to terrible and i plan on watching it when i get the chance AND I PLAN ON LOVING IT #hatersgonnahate

also when it comes to how they say names no shit someone who speaks english isnt going to say it right they dont have a japanese accent just like the japanese cant say english names let me hear one call me Tyler and not Taira....

I meant as the series progresses, you would think the actors would get more accustomed the their roles and plus, I'm basing it on their vocal performance, not if their voice "fits" or not. Improvement happens over time you know.

You're not doing dubs any favors by implying they start the final ADR recording before anyone is comfortable with their role. It's more likely people just get more used to the voices over time, not that the voices are actually changing.

Although it could be the case; I've never finished a dubbed series so I don't know.

Vocal performance? I'm sorry but that's not enough. Radio casters are judged by their vocal performance. But voice ACTORS are judged by how well they can breathe life into the character. If the voice doesn't fit it's just a waste of time.

Perhaps I worded that wrong. I meant they are able to convey all the right emotions of their character (breathing "life" in the character). Whether they fit or not comes secondary and is more of a personal preference than anything (ie you think one character should have voice type A and the actor decides for a similar sounding voice that also "works"; voice type AB). An example would be Daru from Steins;Gate - the Japanese voice actor and English voice actor both portray the character well, but with differentiating performances. Like a scene where the Japanese voice actor used a lighter tone to his voice, and the English voice actor decided that a little bit more deeper tone was more appropriate - both fit that scene and stayed true to the character. Get what I'm trying to say?

A good example of progression over time in a dub is with Neon Genesis Evangelion - especially Spike Spencer (Shinji Ikari) and Allison Keith-Shipp (Misato Katsuragi). Then flash forward twelves years later to Rebuild of Evangelion and what do you get? Even greater voice acting (of course, they had all that time to improve, but still).

That percentage you gave above 95% of all dubs being bad, bump that down to 60%-75% percent at the very least because it's not the 1970's anymore. Also, note I said "improvement happens over time", nowhere do I say "change".

Improve: Make or become better

Change: Make or become different

Should I define different and better as well, or do you understand? By no means is this dub bad. Obviously, it isn't the greatest and nothing ever is. Just asking, but do you know the proper ways to pronounce the Japanese names (Kiritsugu, for example) correctly? If you don't you really don't have a right to say they butcher it.

It certainly happens. If you want an example that made this dub-watcher cringe, just get ahold of the dub of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. They couldn't even decide on how to pronounce Arf's name for several episodes. Fate's VA also sounded as if she was pinching her nostrils together the entire time.

It was among one of the last dubs to come out of ADV (and was released by Funimation instead), so no doubt it was a low budget rush job.
