Recent anime is as good or better than the older anime, we just can easily watch a lot more of it compared to the heavy filtering through the western licensors picking only what they think is the best like in the past.

Nowadays if it's on TV, it's very easy to watch an anime, legally and otherwise, and unlike in the 80's-90's most anime is broadcast on TV, either on late night slots or pay channels, rather than direct-to-video as it used to.

Define what you mean by quality. Also, no anime from the 70's, 80's, or earlier 90's? For shame.

Well that's really old but you get my point. I mean buy the plot and characters, like just to group those 2 groups of anime and compare them to each other, which one would you buy or which one do you like more? We can all agree that the quality of anime has gone down though meaning the plot and such from something like cowboy bepop and fullmetal alchemist to oriemo and Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko. Not hate to AOT though.

I'm sorry but Oreimo and FMA are in two completely different universes. FMA talks about philosophy, Oreimo talks about social norm intrusion, Artistic objectiveness, Hypocrisy, and mainstream consumerism. I would agree that the quality of anime has definitely gone down, a show like Boku Wa Tomodachi where everyone just stands around, telling bad jokes, going to the beach, and speaking pointless dialogue is bad, but Oreimo? I can't believe a show that actually had originality and effort put into it is considered low quality. The psychological elements of Kuroneko actually outweigh Edward Elric's, sure FMA may be more action packed and a grander anime, but Oreimo is shorter, smaller, and more subtle. That's like comparing The Dark Knight with 12 angry men. The Dark Knight is a movie ALL over Gotham and ALL over the entire city with grand themes and battles, where as ALL of 12 angry men takes place in one room, the grandness and quality of a show is perspective. Oreimo has a more peaceful and subtle environment, in fact, Oreimo is MORE relevant to viewers than FMA because Oreimo actually deals with issues more common to the average otaku where as FMA is more universal yet distant and detached from the average viewer and therefore, less significant, not many people are brooding over equivalent exchange, military experience, war memories, or getting your brother's body back.

That was... pretty much useless...

Plus, of those 62, I recognize at least a third that aired in the past 3-4 years.

Can you point to 3 out of 4 sequential anime seasons from before 2010, where you've watched more than 5-6 series per season? I don't really care either way, but you should at least be able to do that much to support your earlier argument.

Which was that current anime is a disappointment because you only watch 5-6 titles per season, which implies that before, you'd consistently watch more than 20-24 new titles per year. At the very minimum, if not significantly more.

Although this could also simply reflect your own shrinking interests in what used to entertain you.

But honestly 5-6 new titles a season seems pretty solid to me. It's about what I watch on average I think. I could check.

Sometimes I watch less and catch up on older titles, it depends on the selection.

On another note:

I'm pretty sure we don't see more or less "AAA" anime titles on average per year now than anytime in the past.

And I would fully welcome statistics proving me wrong.

What do I think about anime today? *thinks*

I like it enough to pay $6.99 (U.S.) / month for it.

Fair enough. Although if you were positively enthralled by all that I can't imagine why watching practically anything currently airing shouldn't catch your interest. You've got stuff there I wasn't even curious enough to glance at.

Personal preferences will play a role, though.

The quality of anime recently is just as good as it was back in the "good ol' days". In my opinion. It's always been about shifting out the good from the bad and there has always been more bad than good. In another 7 years remake this poll so we can compare 10 years of anime to 10 years of anime.

From what I've seen, there's good and bad anime every year. Whenever someone creates a "best" list, they are always stating their own personal preferences.

Now you might be able to mine MAL or ANN data and show that some years statistically have more higher rated shows than other years, but overall, I'd expect the average of good to bad is pretty constant year-in-year-out.

Actually one of the only things I like about the newer animation style, also that new 3d flying technology they recently put in attack on titan. Hopefully that will mix in with more anime in the future.
