Somebody please stop Randy Pitchford. The man is a menace.
I understand Duke Nukem was never going to end well, that was like a mercy kill, but Colonial Marines could have been great.
The guy is seriously in danger of becoming the Uwe Boll of the gaming industry, the way he is treating well loved franchises.

I'll wait and see if they're going to do anything good with the camera that they've added to the PS4.

When the Wii first came out, I thought the idea of a motion sensor was really innovative, but the games they've made don't live up to my expectations of the motion function.

They just need to do something new and interactive to get attention of the more mature gaming audience.

In summary: gaming hasn't gotten worse, I'm sure the present day children find present day video games mindblowingly fun. Just like the present day adults, back in their children days, find donkey kong mindblowingly fun.

If they want adult gamers to spend money, they'll have to do something innovative like using more motion sensing and become more interactive rather than just make a game that consists of shooting random things with a controller.

The gaming industry is both up and down.

Now computer games don't have to be made by major studio's because the cost is now done, in the past it would take a studio to make mario, now it can be done with one person.

But the bad side of it at the moment, is the constant lay off's and ubisoft making their developers slave away up to 20hours a day to make a Rayman game for the Wii U . And now major companies are not experimenting, they are not pushing for new stuff, they are just making the stuff that is popular aka FPS games.

The real innovation in computer games is the indie developers , i think its indie developers that are going to keep the industry moving forward.

Everyone says Xbox One is awful etc but I can bet money that people will still buy it. It happened when the 360 came out and it will happen again.

It all depends on the action of those at the top. And those who have held it together. Calculations by sources I follow show that the shallow/ignorant,or scheming actions of some developers can make or break it.

But none of that really matters. It's just like life and evolution.Video games are made by humans, and as so we are imperfect-Our products are too. We can decrease imperfection. But will never achieve perfection. That so goes our calculations and predictions There's not really one prediction that can prove the future. We will see as time goes on.

This gave me a chuckle:

I doubt Gearbox would agree with you on that, and here's why:
Logically, it is not in their interest to produce bad games - they don't make money since nobody will buy them, and they damage their reputation, hurting sales of future games. Thus, one can expect they believed they could make something better out of it.

The real question is how they had the game in their hands for 5 years and had it turn out so poorly.
Most games are built from scratch in 5 years or less, even today.

I gave them a pass on Duke Nukem because they had it for about a year, not enough time to do very much with it.

As a software developer myself, I agree that it is a challenge working on a project that is in a bad state. Still, it does not look like Gearbox really tried to improve Colonial Marines. If they did, I shudder to think what the game looked like when they received it - and I used to test video games, believe me I've seen horrors. I honestly don't see the part of the game that Gearbox would be willing to claim, "Oh, this was *really* bad when we got it, we improved on it a great deal. This is the kind of work we're capable of."

I don't think games progress in a linear path. There are many irregularities, curves and sometimes the path splits.

With the introduction of the Xbox One, it's obvious console gaming is dying.

That Xbox One thing was just...the worst.

Thats the thing, the vast majority of it wasnt done by gearbox it was outsourced mostly to TimeGate studios due to management fuckups inside gearbox. When you mention gearbox to most people the first thing they say is 'oh borderlands right?', a great game series which is entirely them is what people remember rather than these crappy games, sure people hate on them for a few months then everyone forgets about it entirely and given gearbox doesnt have another game coming out immediately its not that much of an impact to them. Pride wise you might think otherwise and I would agree but most people who now own gaming companies own them because of the bubble thats grown around easy to produce massive selling crap like CoD and FiFA and dont have a real understanding or love of videogaming

If gaming is dying explain how the average age of gamers is increasing aswell as our overall numbers? Explain why year on year there are more PC gamers and pretty much identical console gamers, explain why even old people and technophobes are starting to enjoy games? No, 1 console being badly unveiled means absolutely nothing to the industry as a whole, this past generation has been one of the most balanced there ever was as well as one of the longest, simply because 1 console now appears much weaker doesnt mean anything other than we're going back to how things used to be in the industry with 1 dominante console and several weaker ones, eg PS2 dominant xbox weaker, ps1 dominant gamecube/dreamcast etc etc
