I'm curious how often it crosses other peoples minds. If you're depressed does it cross your mind every day? If you're not do you think about it in times of low? In times where you experience happiness does it cross your mind anyways just as a thought?

I've always been depressed, and it comes up quite frequently. Especially now in times where everything you do just seems wrong, where you've tried, failed, and everything you do is just not working.

I'm curious if people that aren't depressed think about it. Not to take action on, just if it crosses their mind.

Of course it crosses our minds. It does mine at least I've hurt so bad it seems like swallowing lead would be a viable option. Failures add up stress builds and you feel like you can't take it. Then you shake it off realize people have it far worse than you are ever likely to have it. Then move on. Think about the good think about the sunrises you would miss the time spent with friends and family. The pain you would cause those you leave behind. Suicide is a selfish thing, you end your pain only to cause unimaginable pain for those you leave behind. If your depressed the best thing is to talk to someone you trust get the weight off your shoulders any burden is easier to bear when it is shared.

I must agree with Kamaitachi, I mean even though we aren't diagnosed with depression or anxiety. It still happens to common people, just not as severe. I myself, was depressed at one point. I have not ever thought about suicide since then. Also, people do have those thoughts what would happen if I were to disappear or whatnot. I mean, depression is a lack of chemicals in the brain. That's why some people are prescribed on different medications. Some actually react, some just don't do anything at all. Honestly, I think depression is a choice. For example: Someone can think they are worthless and such just by sitting on a couch all day doing absolutely nothing. You can A) Sit there and be miserable or Go outside and soak some Vitamin D doing something productive. A non-depressant person can still have stress and anxiety thus making them think of negative things.

I don't think that they would, honestly. Someone's depressed when they don't have motivation. If they don't have motivation, they can't do anything that they want to do. If they can't do anything that they want to do, then they can't accomplish any dreams or goals. If someone can't accomplish any dreams or goals, they're not happy.

And, when you're not happy, there's just this...biiiig web of crap spewing off of the end of that, that might include things like not being social with anyone, not being able to find a job, not being able to find the motivation to do things that everybody has to learn, such as driving a car...so on, and so forth.

Life becomes miserable, and you feel like you can't do anything about it, and that's when the thought of suicide comes around.

But when you have motivation to begin with...well, you might as well just delete the first three paragraphs of this post.

You can tell that a lot of people have wondered the same thing on here, though. Check out this thread.

It used to cross my mind during my teenage years (Doesn't it for almost everyone in that time?). Although I would never actually do that. It was more as a "what if". It hasn't crossed my mind since then for a very long time. I suppose as most people get older, such thoughts transform into thoughts of murder instead. However, when the issue is circumstances rather than other people causing the misery, if possible the first thoughts to run through my mind are leaving everything & everyone behind and sneaking off to start a new/better life elsewhere. I'd never do it though.....damn morals.

I've been thinking about it more lately for some reason and I never thought about it since I was 8. It makes me highly uncomfortable when it pops randomly into my head whenever I'm depressed now.

I've had a family member and a family friend commit suicide. I cant say I've never thought about it, but seeing how it effects those who cared about the person who took their life is terrible and I would never do it because of this. When I lived in my old house my neighbor took his life, he had two daughters who were probably 14 or 15 at the time, and I still remember how destroyed they looked when they were talking to the paramedics. Just remember, your not alone and you never know what the future holds. To end things early is to rob yourself of all the wonderful things you would have experienced.

I'm not saying you guys are wrong, but depression can be something that isn't brought up by a stimuli. Chemical imbalances in the brain and what not. But I definitely agree, that life is worth living, and suicide would cause so much pain to those who care for you. Honestly, I watch anime for extended periods of time when bad things happen. It relieves me quite a bit. Also just immersing yourself with people really helps keep your mind off things.

There's points in life though, where pain and grief are overwhelming. Emotions cloud your judgement and nothing seems like it'll change. Those are the times that are dangerous in my opinion. I think about suicide a lot. I wouldn't do it though. There's some one I care for that would be devastated, even if i'm a pain in her life right now and she doesn't want to talk. So that stops me from doing anything.

But there's those nights or days where, as previously mentioned, everything just hurts, and everything is dark. I just wish there was someone there at those times to help me through that. I lost that person, and now life is so... empty. You know?

I think everyone wonders about it every then and now... I mean, I wonder if anyone would notice, would I get my point across then? or if people would feel guilty for pushing me this far
... and it's natural to want to disappear when something emotional happens.

But constantly thinking about it due is probably unhealthy...

What I found was, never give up, you will reach your goal eventually, no matter how far away it may seem.

What I get more than thoughts of suicide though are extremely violent thoughts directed towards others. I'm not a very angry person and for the most part am pretty easy going but I find myself from time to time thinking about hurting others in manners that makes me feel really uneasy. I don't act on them, but thinking about it alone is enough to bug me.

Gettnlag, every one ends up thinking things that they don't want to. I know that all too well. I hate it as well. The best you can do about it is talk to some one. Therapist what not blah blah blah. Even if it's something that isn't frequently reoccuring, it helps a lot to stop them in general.

Only if I had some strong disease that might kill me anyway, dying by my own hands then seems more viable

If I don't, then I choose to live, even if my life is a failure (which it currently is, but I'm optimistic).

Nearly unthinkable to those in perfect balance. To the rest, it may be constant or occasionally thought about. With depression, the imbalance of neurochemicals causes certain thoughts and feelings which may lead to actions undesirable to someone in a good mood. It is all a part of our complicated and fragile psychology as humans.
