I tend to gravitate toward certain genres of anime, but don't always follow that rule. I will read the summary of an anime to see if it even interests me; if a preview is available I will certainly watch it. I don't tend to follow any hype unless it is for a subsequent season to a series I have already watched, or an artist that I am familiar with. The big thing for me is to watch the first episode; I can generally tell quickly what the series will be like. If a series doesn't quite catch my attention, but doesn't turn me off I will watch a couple more episodes to see if it picks up (generally ones with confusing plots in the beginning...sometimes it takes a couple of episodes to make sense of what is going on).

I usually go for things in certain genres. I look at the thumbnail, and that usually tells me most of what I need to know. Then, I look at the title, although that usually doesn't matter if I like the thumbnail enough. I read the summary to get the general feel for things, but I don't take it too seriously. Honestly, summaries almost never accurately convey how awesome an anime is. Then I go watch the first few episodes and if I like them I continue and if I don't I still continue because I usually like to finish what I start.

I also sometimes go off of what other people recommend in the comments of other anime. I didn't like the thumbnail (or the title) for Baby Steps and I already liked PoT so I thought it might end up being too similar. But so many people were talking about it in the Haikyu!! comments that I gave it a shot and I really like it.

I just go on Crunchyroll...and on the shows list. I chose a random show that is popular and most of the time is recommended by my friends. I also chose by genre a little bit.

Usually when I read the description, if it sounds like it'll be dumb or weird I'll watch it. For example, I thought Silver Spoon would be really dumb but I ended up loving it. I also thought sports anime would be dumb or boring but I love them now! I also thought One Piece would be weird but ended up liking it! To sum it up...I make myself try anime that I think will be weird or dumb lol... Oh I also use crunchyroll to pick what anime I will watch. I look at comments, reviews, and ratings.

Before Crunchyroll it was one of 3 things. A. It was on TV when I was in high school. B. It was recommended (by handing me the anime to borrow), by a friend. C. I picked it off the shelf at FYE or Best Buy (which locally no longer sells anime ). Since I found crunchy roll I have watched 3 full seasons of shows I'd never heard of 2 were recommended to me by people I met here, the other I picked out based on the image when scrolling through the alphabetical list of shows. I am currently watching like 7 shows.

Mostly just stuff I find on Tumblr that seems interesting. I don't really just other people's judgement (sorry other people) so very rarely do I use hype or recommendations to decide what to watch
