It depends on a variety of things. Like if I know something will be taken down from Crunchy soon, I drop everything else and work on that. Other times I want to just fly through something quickly so I'll watch a short OVA. Still other times, if I feel like watching a comedy, I'll pop that in to my player/watch on Crunchy.

Honestly, I try to watch specific anime that usually have a few things I know I'll enjoy. For instance, I enjoy watching underdogs or tragedies, etc. But I will say, every instance I've searched outside of my usual taste (spice and wolf), I've been pleasantly happy. It really just depends, as long as the anime isn't geared towards younger teens; I'll probably enjoy it if it is pretty decent quality. (no offense, younger teens.)

I hadn't thought of it, but I guess websites such as My Anime List can be helpful to choose an anime. I've sometimes browsed people's top ten lists. Adding random shows to your queue to go through when you can seems to also be a good idea. Recommendations from friends is also great. Thanks for all the ides and contributing to this discussion! Keep it up everyone!

Sometimes it's the artwork. Also the plot, episode summaries and the main summary of the anime as well. Also recommendations as such.

It really does depend on my mood for the day on which anime I give a test run to.

If the art style looks good I may give it an episode or two and then make a choice from there or if it is mentioned as a good show I may give it a go or sometimes if it looks like the story may interest me I will give it a try.

Until I joined this site I tended to just pick a series based off of the back of the DVD case and have gotten very lucky in finding two shows that really hit the spot for me Elfen Lied and Ef - A Tale of Memories. So I guess the answer is I really don't have a set in stone method for choosing a series I just go with whatever seems to feel right at the moment.

I get recommendations from others.

I also look for similarities between anime's I've liked find ones with similar plot summary/character set/genre/settings

I sometimes watch them because they have been or are popular and feel like I should get an opinion.

And I often just will search lists of Anime's and if I can find them english subbed then I'll give it a shot

And I also browse the crunchy roll inventory a lot and randomly add things when I get bored

It really depends who plays the part of that character. For example: STEVE BLUM.
Voice actor for Big O and played as Sergei from Asuras Wrath.

I either watch something by recommendation or if something looks interesting. I also pick shows based on whatever genre I feel like watching at the time!

This is strange I check the pictures and give it one episode to catch me. I will read the reviews before if there is no manga. I know if I like an anime in the first 10 minutes. I can also get bored of an anime in 2 to 3 episode happened more time than I care to remember.

Lets see... anything with a sword, character design, plot line sounds good, good reviews, short series, spin off or variation of another series (like digimon adventure and digimon frontier), and also just on a whim

All of those, except the specific genre one, I watch all anime genres except horror.
