Well I'm a fan girl but I'm not this other thing. I'm not into yaoi.

But it's kind of like how it is to be a female gamer and a femal anime lover.

You realize you are in a male oriented world. It's changing but it's still true.

I have to see fanservice and suggested yuri all the time. I don't complain and just go on. But the moment a guy is the subject of fanservice there's a problem. Seems odd to me. I don't quite understand it really.

These list is odd because I like the anime girls hate as well as the ones girls like.

Is it really wrong for me to like kuroko and think some of the guys are hot? Not yaoi I hate yaoi. But yes I think the guys are hot.

How is that different from the busiest girl and anime leg threads?

Well I guess that's the answer to one of the questions I posed, that it's not really any different either way. I was thinking it was hypocritical of guys to hold it against girls for liking what is essentially fanservice (even if it's manservice)

Another layer of what I was thinking about is that lots of girls don't like ecchi shows because it sort of "objectifies" them into something that don't really act like girls. Like in moe shows, lots of the girls there are cute and cuddly entities that have an affinity for all things cute and cuddly. But girls would never act like that in real life lol.

Same thing goes for the opposite side, I think yaoi fans (even though I know that doesn't apply to you) are kind of being silly if they think that there's actually any romance in bromance, like if two guys are such close friends that they'd start kissing each other. To me, bromance means playing video games together and that punching each other in the face will strengthen your relationship, lol. So to me, I have the a few of the same feelings when a shoujo manga has the overly touchy-feely dude (like in Karneval) prancing around everywhere, 'cause guys like that almost never exist.

So I used to hold it against girls if they liked something like that before I realized I do the exact same thing with all of my moe shows (I don't like yuri either). Anyway, I'm rambling (read: discussing), but I'm just wondering if all the dudes that voted in those polls think along similar lines of how I used to, where I didn't really give much thought to what girls thought about anime.

To answer your question, the friction does root in the concept that neither side wishes to understand the other. The majority of Otaku generally fall into one of the two categories above, males tending to fall into the 'moe-crazy' side and females in the 'fujoshi' side. The anime industry produces shows that appeal to both groups, but when a studio that has appealed to one particular side all of a sudden tries to increase its fan-base by creating something for the other group, then the original fan-group will rant and rage about how the studio is spending its time on something other than the shows it has become known for. It almost feels like being betrayed by the very anime producer you worshipped. When the male Otaku and female Otaku love a specific genre of anime, like ecchi or yaoi, that love is usually extreme to the extent that they reject anything unrelated to it. It is like with anime itself- on one side is the Otaku who live for it, and the other side is the rest of society, which despises it just because the Otaku like it. Neither side wishes to understand the other because they are far too delusioned in their own ideals. And some of it is based solely on rivalry. Many anime appeal to the extremes of the anime spectrum to maximize the appeal to a specific fanbase, which is why the opposite gender or group rarely enjoys it. With two dominant fanbases, there is bound to be friction. Take the situation in the anime Date A Live, for example- both the AST and Ratatoskr are both extreme methods of dealing with Spirits, and even though they were both created for the same purpose, they cannot help but oppose each other's ideals. Same with the fujoshi and whatever you would classify the typical male Otaku. Unable to find a middle ground, they instead try to put down the other group, because they believe their own ideals to be superior to those of the other. That is why, even if one bishounen anime might actually be a decent one with enjoyable features, male Otaku will avoid it at all costs (like a certain 'anime god' here on crunchyroll) and call it horrible without even watching it. The opinion is therefore based completely on nothing. Although there are those people who belong to a specific Otaku group and judge things after they watch it, with an unbiased outlook, that number does not compare to the amount of idiots who voted on sankakucomplex (because usually those results mean absolutely nothing). In fact, the manga/light novels or whatever the anime was based on usually appeals to both sides though, when converted to anime form, is tweaked to fit the expectations of a certain fanbase. Males typically like yuri because it focuses on girls and doesn't subject their own gender to such embarrasing acts, and girls tend to like yaoi because it pairs the guys they love together, but seem to hate ecchi because they don't like having their own gender subject to disgusting acts. And I admit- sometimes, those acts are quite disgusting. I have more to say on this matter, however, I do not think anyone will read the entire thing, so I will end it here.
My personal opinion is that both genre types are acceptable- and enjoyable too, but it is not the only thing that determines an anime. I will not like something just because it is yuri or yaoi (though, I am slightly more biased when it comes to loli). There are girls who love yuri, and guys who are into bishounen men (and are mentally healthy, too), and even they might be the same as the others in their anime group. The media is just stereotyping Otaku like it usually does, so do not pay much attention to it. I myself am looking forward to 'Free!', however I do feel that KyoAni should spend its time on anime like Haruhi (though I know that is almost impossible now). People can like what they like, but they will be subject to negative opinions with/without proper bias.
The love of anime itself is one such example.

I count about the same number of shows on both lists that I enjoyed. I'll watch nearly everything.

PS. the person who started those threads about bust and legs may say F in the profile, but I assure you he is a guy. He stated so in his forum about ecchi.

WHAT? lol

Anyways I don't think I care what either male or females thinks when I am doing a poll. It doesn't seem intuitive to consider the other party when you're trying to show your opinion. It is good to look at both sides after (such as this discussion).

I don't see the benefits during the process, but before or after it should be considered.

^ Nope you're completely fine, it is just a your own personal taste in anime. I am a big anime fan, but I don't watch certain things >.>

I think it was ychrom who said something about not being fan, and wrote an essay (pretty good one) about anime fanatics.

Everything I'm writing is from a guy's perspective, so I'm bound to be overgeneralizing, lol. And like AnimeKami said, nothing wrong with having your own tastes.

I loved this entire post, but it would take forever to compose a proper response, so I'll bullet-point it.
- I agree with your opinion and sympathies of KyoAni and Haruhi fans.
- I actually make a bit of an effort to watch bishounen shows in fear that I might pass something up (like Arata the Legend), but I almost couldn't make it through K because of how almost-gay the two main dudes were. (that wasn't its only problem)
- It's a shame that different sects of otaku culture display the same behavior towards each other that outsiders do towards all otaku.
- agreed, SC polls are crap. I'm just sifting through it.
- interesting perspective on yaoi and yuri that I haven't thought of
- Lolicon ja nai, feminist da.
- You're a way better writer than I was when I was 14

...this is strange. There are a bunch of shows on both lists that I'm just of the 'meh' opinion (mostly due to not seeing them yet), but there shows on BOTH LISTS that I like (and reasons why I like them) spoiler marked due to its 'wall of text' nature...

From the "Girls love/Guys Hate" list there's...

Now for the "Guys Love/Girls Hate" list...

TL;DR: I like both shows that girls like and shows that guys like.

I'm a guy and yet I love Durarara, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Magi, Tiger & Bunny, and Blue Exorcist (all on the girls' list). The only ones I like from the guys' list are Sword Art Online and A Certain Magical Index.

Man, this has been bugging me for a couple hours lol. I sorta understand what the guys mean by some anime that they think girls hate since some of the girls in the shows are either dumb or bitchy. I really cant agree with guys actually loving some of those shows though but to each his own.

Man, i loved kuroshitsuji but when i think back to the anime i could see where the girls get their fujoshi fantasies from...smh lol

I think by "men" and "girls" the polls really mean "boys" and "young girls"
That's unfair, mental age is not married to chronological age.

it is all a matter of preference. if we all started to take these polls made by biglobe seriously we'd look like jackasses... I am not saying this issue isn't important but classic anon would say the following:

This list is bullshit.

I forgot who, but a user made a very mathematical and scientific claim that those stats are beyond wrong.

ps: i just had a red bean mochi, thought of hyouka and thought it was directed towards girls. I didn't like it (hyouka, the red bean mochi is godly good), but I am entitled since i finished it (both, literally)...
