If someone came up to me and said a show I liked is bad, I'll just ask them what their favorite show is, watch it, and tell them why it sucked (even if it didnt suck). No show is perfect, so this is an easy way to shut people up. Unless of course they say Baccano! is bad. If they say that, I wont even waste my time on them.

One thing that I will always defend though, are dubs that I like. Dubs like Steins;Gate, which got a bad rap for having a terrible dub, I will defend since I watched the whole thing dubbed and didnt have a problem with it.

You've not read the average review of Sekirei. If I'd said Clannad+AS (my #1 series) I'd be with you...

Defending an anime....mmm let me think.

I would say

Narut
o. Becuase a lot of my friends dont follow it becuase its too long and got fillers galor.

SA
O. There are lots who didnt like the ALO arc but I actually liked becuase its pacing and adaptation is better than Aincrad.

Psyhco Pas
s , for the predictability in the last few episodes and not so gratifying ending. I would say , its Urobuchi sensei man.

Ginta
ma, for being the silliest samurai show ever , some just cant get into the comedy.

Baccano because I enjoyed the plot the most out of any anime I have watched , made me happy , sad and everything in between , and Angel Beats because that show was deep to me , and it didn't escalate the plot too quickly , it made me cry too

Ranma 1/2. Granted, Takahashi doesn't know how to end most of her stuff for a damn (although it's not as bad as some shows in that regard *cough cough*). It's junk food, but it's the first anime I ever really dug into, and I can't recall ever not having at least a bit of fun with any particular episode of it.

I think a lot of you are misunderstanding what I believe to be the point of the topic (though correct me if I'm wrong OP)...

The OP wants you to describe anime that you will always defend, but a lot of you are naming anime that needs no defense. Prime obvious candidates are anime with a lot of haters but are incredibly popular (Naruto, One Piece), or anime that is just plain considered to be bad by most people you speak with. Dubs are a great example of something that you might find yourself defending a lot as well if you like them.

Anyways, me personally, to the death I will always defend Guilty Crown with heaping measures of reasoning as to why I believe it to be one of the greatest anime of all time. It's completely not blind reasoning either, I've been up and down the arguments over its story and character development to a great degree, and there's plenty there for me to talk about. I had a thread a few weeks back doing just that. Guilty Crown built up a lot of (what I believe to be) unnecessary hate, and it's saddening to me because I think that a similar thing is going to happen when the dub gets released this coming August among those who wait for dubs to enjoy anime, so here's to hoping at least the voice acting doesn't drag it down because they've got major shoes to fill. In my opinion Guilty Crown is one of those anime (in the same vein as Sword Art Online) that is so great that it's in a different tier that draws all the character development/story purists out of their shells to attack every single breathing detail of the anime, picking it apart for all of its plot-holes or suspensions of realism in what the characters do or say. I hate these kinds of people because they are basically anti-imagination in their plight, they see things in only one close-minded way, and only seek to do it with anime that is popular with the simple minded goal of bringing it down.

I don't see anybody questioning the decisions made by Yui Hirasawa from K-On!!, or discarding The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya for all the ridiculous ratio of inner dialogue versus actual vocalized communication from Kyon has throughout the series, or the ridiculous-ness period of Guuren Lagaan. These are just great shows because they are great shows, and it makes me sad when certain shows that, in my opinion, are so great that they attract a different kind of critic, the really petty one with a bone to pick, get mauled for the same reasons other great shows don't get touched.

School days.

I like animes that defy cliches, take a chance, and does something different, weird, and dramatic. You may not like the end or the characters, but you MUST admire it's balls, and I admire balls more than I can say about other anime which has become more of a repetitive product that justs contain the same things over and over and over and over again.

It just baffles me that the animes that tend to be popular ones are the animes that do nothing new, that have no new ideas, no new morals, no new dilemmas, no new concepts, no new character archetypes. It's just the same thing over and over again and people seem to like watching the same thing over and over again and that's what tend to be popular. Shows that rely on cliches and cop-out writting rather than talent. Which is why I will always defend School days, it wasn't great, but it took a big chance

And even if it's not anime, I will also defend to the death Twilight, in the rare circumstance that anyone dares say that SAO is better than Twilight, despite the fact that they are two sides of the same bad coin. That is something I cannot tolerate and even though I never cared about Twilight, I will come to it's rescue if SAO fans ever try to assault it with their insults of absolutely irony.
