for all the magic players out there, what is your favorite color, card, strategy, and in general favorite way to play the game. i run mostly blue cause i like the control over the battle field, and being able to mill or unsommon creatures is always hilarious.

Back when I still played (I started around the time Prophecy was released), I mainly used black. Cheap, powerful spells where you sacrifice life or other things you don't need, instant removal of creature threats, and drawing power and cool creatures. And Dark Ritual.

I've also run a mono-white equipment deck that was very fast and powerful, but its weakness was that it was creature-based. Had tons of crazy equip, though. Leonin Shikari + Lightning Greaves was crazy. And protection from equipment helped defend my attackers from spells, so it was hard to deal with without a specially-constructed counter.

Single-color decks became a bit unviable when I was playing, so I had to run a two-color deck. I preferred a combo of black and white when I was playing standard. White to cover some of the holes black had, Disenchants, field wipes, regain life so I could sacrifice more for more cards and effects, etc. White also has respectable creatures of its own, but I still relied mostly on the dark side to deal damage, with white for reliability, artifacts such as equipment to strengthen my creatures and give more effects. My black/white deck was probably my most all-around best deck.

I could play every color and color combo decently other than anything involving blue, but black was my best color. I don't know why, I just found blue to be unsuitable for my playstyle. I found milling to be slow and weak, the creatures were annoying but weaker than the ones I was used to using, and counters and bounces were nice but required constant management. Whenever I played blue, I found myself to be using artifacts to win rather than actual blue stuff, so I figured that doesn't count. The only blue deck I ever used very well was a Ravager/affinity deck, but that's because affinity was so broken at the time and I had a few Skullclamps in that deck.

I started playing back in the edition 2 days and continued for many years. I stopped playing just after 9th edition. Completing sets was just too additive and expensive.

I agree that single color really wasn't a good idea. Using 2 colors gives you a better way to deal with the weakness of any particular color. One of my favorite choices was Blue/Black.

Red. This is my favorite color in magic because it's unpredictable and spares no one. Most of my casual decks I build are built to mess with everybody on the field. I'm not really trying to win, just trying to be a jerk. I'm the kind of guy that would play hive mind then cast shahrazad and twincast it.

If I am trying to win I bust out my myr deck that uses myr matrix, mana echoes and staff of dominition to deal out punishment, my version of 'red deck wins', my green/white super tokens deck or just to be an ass, my fog deck.
