I'm a male, I despise him. He had a perfect girlfriend, and he cheated, lied, manipulated, and pretty much abused everyone who cared about him.
He's pretty much everything I hate in people rolled into one little ball of shit.
I've never felt so much hatred towards any other character, live action, anime, or real person.

Also, I actually enjoy the show because not many shows are able to stir up emotions like that one, even if they are bad emotions. So kudo's to the writer. But that character is a shitbag.

This is an absolutely fantastic answer.

i like harem & comedic fan service genre but i can't tolerate this kind of anime. i mean the 1st half sweet until he just went all out on half of his classmates. good for him he got some head off

i blame my former online clannie who recommended me to watch it

For a while now, I've never been able to figure out the hate myself. This game/show is just realistic in a sense, whereas makoto is dull and easily swayed, as is most of the world. People who watch anime seem to not be able to handle real life. I respect the company for giving out a bad end, and probably expected hate for it. Not many companies can say they did that. Still. It's not like I would like makoto if I met him in reality, simply because he cheated on people a ton. But at the same time, It is all

Anyways, We were all teens, all did stupid things. People just can't face reality and say: Oh, This happens irl all the time (Except for the ending, not sure if that happens a lot. xD). . That's why I hate all the unneeded hate for him. HATE THE HATERS.

WHERE IS THE SEKAI HATE. FUCK MAN.

I certainly wouldn't do the same thing as him. The lack of honour and loyalty in love these days is distressing. I have one girlfriend and one love. She is the only person who I pledge my heart to. I don't see why loving a girl till the day you die is so undesirable.

Makoto was an idiot and foolishly played around with the lives of others without properly thinking about the consequences. He deserved what he got.

Totally agree. It is almost like Makoto did all this himself and no one in the entire anime ever did anything to actively push him down this path.

Probably that pursuing your desires in whichever way is most expedient often leads to tragedy. The stories of Sekai and Itou both arrive at this same conclusion in the end, but only after having taken very distinct journeys. I explain in much greater detail ahead, but if you read everything outside the spoiler tag you'll have gotten the Reader's Digest version.

In the end it was Sekai's weakness and Itou's carelessness which damned them.

so its all just about exploiting the weaknesses a human can have? Also I heard the ONA of this had a "better" ending, but i havent the interest in checking that out.

That's crazy stuff mayne

The anime adaptation of School Days is (as best I can place it) a tragedy, so the whole idea is to highlight some perceived human failing and show it as inevitably leading to ruin and destruction. Hubris is a favorite of tragedies, but this one (being an adaptation of an eroge) went with lust.
